Super Mario Bros. Has A New Speedrun World Record, And Our Thumbs Are Tired Just From Watching

Take that, Bowser.

If you have never before played Super Mario Bros., believe me when I say that what you are about to witness is not even remotely as easy as it looks. I sit in awe of the precision on display here. It’s a thing of beauty.

The new world record of 4:57.69 (!) was set by a speedrunner named Blubbler, who dethroned the former champion by less than a second. Now, to those of you who are pointing out the use of warp pipes, bear in mind that this record is in the “any%” category. The goal of an “any%” run is simply to get to the end of the game as fast as humanly possible. Completing all levels is not required (unlike the “Warpless” category, in which a complete playthrough is necessary; the current record is 19:12). And for those of you who know a bit about speedrunning, no, this was not tool-assisted.
