Katee Sackhoff Wants to Play Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Han Solo… Seriously, She’s Not Picky

Make It So

It’s no secret around these parts that we want Katee Sackhoff to be in All The Things. Turns out she does too. In an interview with TotalFilm the actress reiterated her long-held desire to play Harley Quinn. Or Jinx. Or Wonder Woman. Or be in Star Wars. She’ll even play a rock. SOMEBODY CAST HER IN SOMETHING BIG, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

After some chatting about Riddick (review here) and her love of the Batman franchise (“I remember watching Danny DeVito and just being like, ‘Holy fuck/fudge, he’s amazing.”), the conversation got around to all the female (and one male) characters she’d love to play. First on the list was Harley Quinn, the subject of Sackhoff’s epic, undying ladyboner:

“I think I might give away my firstborn to have an opportunity to play Harley Quinn…. I love trying to understand the villain, and trying to understand the things they do and why they do them, and I’ve always found her and The Joker, you almost can’t understand them. And it makes it so much more interesting because everything’s fair game, and I love that. I loved the usefulness of her, I thought that was interesting, and I just think that it’s a fantastic character… [I would] absolutely [rather play a villain than a hero.] More fun, more challenging.”

But there is one hero she’d suit up for: Wonder Woman, a role she auditioned for back when David E. Kelly was trying to get his TV version off the ground:

“I remember auditioning for the Wonder Woman television show and being told that I wasn’t the Wonder Woman type, but if I wanted to play the best friend, I could audition for that.

And remember thinking to myself, ‘You obviously haven’t seen my work!’ [laughs]”

Moment of silence for the show that might have been. She’d also be up for the supervillainess Jinx, whom she’s “obsessed with,” though that would be a case of whitewashing so I’m gonna stick with praying for Harley. DC, I know you’re not doing particularly well on the movie front right now, but I’m pretty sure you could call Sackhoff up, offer her any supervillain role, and she’d do it. You probably wouldn’t even have to pay her. Hell, she might pay you. What are you waiting for?! Marvel’s gonna snap her up!

Or it might be Star Wars, which Sackhoff has had some experience with, having voiced Bo-Katan in The Clone Wars.

“Star Wars meant everything to me growing up… I was absolutely obsessed… The sad thing is, I never wanted to be Princess Leia, I always wanted to be Han Solo! [laughs] I’ve never really been drawn to these female roles, but I think that The Clone Wars was so much fun for me to play, I mean a warrior. If J.J. [Abrams] would listen, I would play a rock in the Star Wars movies.”

Sackhoff previously teased us about “big things happening” in her career, specifying that they’re not related to Star Wars, but that was like a full month ago. The casting director could have their hand on their phone ready to call her and offer her a role as a Force-sensitive, warrior rock at this very moment. Or! She could play a non-rock female warrior. There are three people involved in the Episode VII script: Michael Arndt, who was the first writer, and Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan, who are doing revisions. I don’t expect much from Abrams, but surely the influence of Arndt and Kasdan should be enough to get us character for Sackhoff to play.

Jedi. Master. Starbuck.
