Dying man blames stranger for neck wound at Shell station – surveillance video reveals who is the culprit

Authorities in Memphis, Tennessee, have found themselves in a baffling situation where the final words of a murder victim contradict the hard evidence of the crime captured on video. The officials are currently piecing together the events that led to the death of Cameron Young, who was fatally stabbed in the neck during an argument.
According to Law&Crime, while Young told responding officers that he had been attacked by a man in a red shirt and black pants at a local Shell station, surveillance footage from an apartment complex tells a much different story. Iesha Thomas, a 31-year-old woman, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the incident.
According to court records, Thomas is being held in the Shelby County Jail without bond. The events began to unfold on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at approximately 12:30 a.m. when Thomas and her sister arrived at an apartment complex located on the 200 block of West Red Oak Drive.
The complaint states that Thomas and Young were arguing
According to an affidavit of complaint, Thomas and Young began to argue before entering an apartment unit. The victim’s sister, who was present, stated that Young exited the apartment shortly after, bleeding from his neck and shoulder area. Thomas reportedly followed him outside as he collapsed.
When the Memphis Police Department arrived at the scene around 1:22 a.m., they found Young on the ground in critical condition. It was during these final moments that Young claimed he had been stabbed by a 6’3″ man wearing a red shirt and black pants at a nearby gas station. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, Young was pronounced dead, and his death was officially ruled a homicide.
Investigators quickly shifted their focus to the apartment complex to find the source of the injury. They discovered a trail of blood leading away from Young and back to an unlocked apartment door. Upon entering the unit, officers found blood droplets on the living room floor that led into the back bedrooms. A search warrant allowed police to uncover mail addressed to Iesha Thomas and another individual named Rob’nesha Partee inside the residence, according to Fox13.
The surveillance video helped make the case
The most damning piece of evidence, however, came from the complex’s surveillance cameras. The footage showed Young arguing with a woman dressed in all black, who police later identified as Thomas. After the two entered the apartment, Young was seen exiting just a few seconds later. On the recording, Young can clearly be heard saying, “She stabbed me.”
The audio captured on the video is particularly chilling. According to the police report, Thomas was heard saying, “I hope you die there,” followed by, “Get the f— away from me b—, or I’ll stick you again.” It’s a stark contrast to the account Young gave to police while he was dying. It’s possible that in his final, disoriented moments, he was confused or perhaps trying to protect himself in a way that didn’t align with the reality of the assault.
Following the stabbing, the woman identified as Thomas allegedly made a 911 call. Records show the call originated from a number that was later confirmed to belong to Thomas by her sister, Partee. During that 911 call, the caller reported that a man had been stabbed and was walking away from the apartment, but she refused to provide the operator with any further information.
The accused’s sister’s account offered clarity
Partee, when interviewed by investigators, confirmed that she and her sister had arrived at the complex around 12:30 a.m. She corroborated the timeline, noting that Thomas and Young entered the apartment while in the middle of a heated argument, and she witnessed Young exit the unit bleeding while Thomas followed him. She also confirmed that the woman captured on the security video was indeed her sister.
The investigation has been thorough, involving multiple pieces of evidence from the scene and the digital trail left by the 911 call. Thomas is currently awaiting further legal proceedings, with a bail review hearing and arraignment scheduled for Friday.
It’s a tragic case that highlights how quickly a situation can escalate, and how surveillance technology often reveals the truth when human memory or testimony fails during a crisis.
