Amazon, Latest Attempt at Wonder Woman Show, Gets Pushed Back

Okay, so Amazon isn’t dead. But the CW just announced the eight new pilots it’ll be producing this season, and according to Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva, the putative Wonder Woman show is not among them.

I have learned that the network has decided to roll the Wonder Woman origin project to next season. Additionally, I hear the CW may order an off-cycle pilot.

Deadline notes that Amazon had already started casting it’s Diana, putting it ahead of the curve of some of the other shows its (young) age. On the other hand, the script for the pilot was still in the process of being written but a month ago, and it’s reasonable for the CW to want to give the show more time. Even wanted, after David E. Kelley‘s camp blamed the rushed nature of their production for at least some of its problems. After the success of Arrow on NBC this year, however, the CW is even more interested in replacing the DC-Comics-shaped hole in its lineup of dramas, according to Deadline’s sources.

Hopefully that means that Amazon won’t fade away. We certainly won’t stop rooting for it.

I’m happy with them taking as much time as they need, so long as they get it right.

…the first one. The second one was good with the apostrophe.

I would rather have no Wonder Woman television show than a crappy Wonder Woman television show, so I hope they take their time and do it right. I just hope it doesn’t turn out like Smallville did, that show pretty much destroyed my interest in Superman forever.

Arrow airs on the CW, and NBC is the one who had the previously aired pilot. I think there’s a bit of a mixup there…

“Arrow” is on the CW not NBC

Hey, I don’t know if anybody else has mentioned this, but Arrow is already filling the DC-Comics shaped hole for the CW. :p

But yeah, with Arrow being surprisingly decent, I’m feeling optimistic about Amazon. I wonder if the CW is planning on creating their own DC-TV Universe.

How about a feature film debut already?

…what was the David E. Kelly version supposed to look like if it HADN’T been rushed? Vonda Shepard doing the Punisher blowtorch-popsicle torture on someone?

Wow, The CW has had more success with TV shows about Justice League members than DC has with their endless movie attempts. I think paired with Arrow this could be a great hit for them!

I agree with comments. CWs version of SmallVille and the recent Arrow upset me enough that I welcome them never doing a Wonder Woman series. Otherwise, they will turn her into a soap star instead of an action series. I would rather see a modern day series, if they can get the costume right and stay true to who she is – representing someone who stands up and protects women who cant stand up for themselves.
