Quick, somebody invent a Rock Paper Scissors variant for this. (io9)

This is a pretty great Harley Quinn shirt at Hot Topic, if we may say so ourselves, and if you’r interested superhero shirts for a certain spider-based lady who’s gotten a lot of press lately DC Women Kicking Ass might be able to help.

“So it turns out the long awaited Game of Thrones video game, which is an RPG, doesn’t have a playable female character. So that’s a fail.”
Which has been known for some time. An RPG doesn’t necessarily mean the inclusion of character creation – The Witcher is an RPG series, but you’re stuck as Geralt, for example. Alpha Protocol? Stuck as Mike whatsit.

Not saying Cyanide were right to stick to two Straight White Males, simply that it’s not uncommon nor entirely unreasonable given the source material.

What the hell?!?! One of the reasons I love Game of Thrones is because there are so many powerful female characters that kick ass. In the fantasy genre, it does seem that female character are  more often than not, just background.

Also I WANT TO BE DANY.

Not unreasonable given the source material?

Did you miss the paragraph in the article where they list all the named women and groups of women who fight and adventure in these books?  About half the story is told from the point of view of women – another paragraph of the article lists all the women who get chapters told from their point of view.
This game has 2 playable characters and they are both guys – a member of the same brotherhood as Jon Snow and a red priest.  They aren’t forcing you to play as the ‘main’ character – partially because this series doesn’t have a true main character so I’m sorry but I don’t think your comparisons are particularly valid.  Maybe if there was just one playable character and that was Ned Stark (the game dealing mainly with the early story) then your comparison would be accurate and fair.
Also, just because something is common doesn’t make it right.

And the number of women who fight in the ASoIaF books is much smaller than the number of men.

There are two characters, yes, and both are men. But they’re fixed characters in that they’re not of your own creation. That’s also not uncommon – The First Templar had three, two templars and a noblewoman. Hunted: The Demon’s Forge had two, a bloke and a female Elf. Those characters, however, were all defined within the game. That’s no different to Alpha Protocol or The Witcher in that you have choices within that world, but you’re stuck with the choices presented to you.

And I’ve not said it’s “right”. I’ve said it’s uncommon and it’s reasonable considering the source material. Same could apply to The Witcher – there’s women who fight in it, but not as many as men.

And, really, would you want to play as a woman in a game based on ASoIaF? You’d have half of the male cast attempting to rape you or making horrific comments about your body.

    Rock, Paper, Scissor, Jedi, Doctor!

Rules are up to you as the Doctor is, well flexible. ;)

This makes no sense.  How can there NOT be a playable female character?!!!  There are so many great women in the series.
