Things We Saw Today: A Doctor Who Secret

This postcard showed up in today’s PostSecret update, and we’re putting it here in the hopes it gets back to the person who created it, so they’ll check the comments and know they’re hardly alone.

PRECIPITATE! PRECIPITATE! PRECIPITATE! (Ape in a Cape)

Blizzard, masters of the cinematic, have released the opening of the long-awaited Diablo III. No release has been announced yet, but it’s Blizzard, so we’re assuming it will come out Soon™. (via Rock, Paper, Shotgun)

The Ferngully article said LOTR was a coming of age story. I didn’t start my unexpected journey until I was 50! Even in Big Folk years, that’s like 30. Oh sure, they got a pretty teenager to play me in the movie, but John Nash ain’t no Russel Crowe either. Otherwise, good article. That movie makes Treebeard smile, though he characterized Robin Williams’ rap as “hasty.”

I’d love to see a whole game/movie done with that CGI-enhanced pencil drawing style in the Diablo trailer.

Thank you, Mary Sue, for showing me yet another amazing website! (the ferngully review was originally posted on bitch flicks, a feminist movie reviewing site with the fantastic subhead “the radical notion that women like good movies”)

It’s quite telling that it’s Tennant in the pics.  There seems to be a whole lot of new Who fans who never paid any heed to Doctor Who until they got a cute young guy to play him.

As far as the image at the top of the page, i don’t know who made it, but it reminds me of a song by a Dr Who band called Chameleon Circiut. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98rtEm7sUsU

Because it totally has nothing to do with the hae fact that alot of the old doctor who was frankly crap… Dense stories sometimes terribly told, in some cases terrible writing, some really kooky costuming & some really cheap looking monsters and special effect. All on a tv show that hadn’t been made in goodness knows how many decades.

Come off it, cuteness isn’t why people showed up. I’m an old school whovian, but even i can admit the old stuff can’t hold a sonic screw driver to the new Who.

Have to agree. I’m a huge Who geek, but all I see in that top pic is a Tennant fan-girls wet dream. Would’ve been far more impressed if they were all pics of Doctors past and present. Then she would’ve got kudos instead of pity.

I love the new Doctor Who series because of the same reasons Matthew Lane mentioned. But also David Tennant. If any of the doctor’s landed on my doorstep, it would have to be Tennant.Yes because he is dreamy, but I also liked his Doctor and story lines the best.

I prefer Matt Smith…but I’ve been looking for a blue box since Eccleson

You do know that a lot of people like Tennant because, gasp, he is a good actor, right? Not just for his looks? :D

I know I’m a fangirl because of his manic, crazy personality.. I loved how he brought the role to life. Frankly it’s a little insulting to say everyone who did like him was just looking for a cute guy to lust over.

Hear, hear! I was just coming here to post a similar reply.

I started with Nine because I thought the show looked like something I, as a geeky girl, would like and I fell completely in love. Or so I thought completely in love until Ten took over and some of those stories seriously moved me to pure joy and tears. Mind you, I’m more than happy to admit that some are also just about unwatchable. I’ve since watched Eleven and have gone back and watched Four, Five, and even Eight as well, but Ten is still far and away my favorite because he makes me feel the way “Doctor Who” should always make people feel – full of wonder and thoroughly entertained.

And frankly, I’m getting pretty sick and tired of being dismissed as “Not a real fan” because Ten is my favorite. I’ve seen this attitude all over the web and am frankly mystified by it.

Good actor? Freaking amazing actor! Matt Smith is good, but he can’t quite pull off the raw emotion David could (Doomsday and End of Time of course being the best examples).

Nice strawman.  Nowhere did I say “everyone.”

Yet these same train-jumping fans pretend to have been into it all along, or even, all of who preceding the revival.  Oh, and you come off it, Mr. Contrarian.

  • Anonymous

Yet again, I’m not dismissing you or anyone whose favorite is Tennant.  I’m just annoyed by those who never gave a crap pretending like they always have.

  • Matthew Lane

You get that in every fandom though. From Baywatch, through Love Hina.

  • Matthew Lane

An because you are obviously a man of great taste, i would like to give you an early christmas present… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98rtEm7sUsU

Thanks for your e-mail. I believe you, it just seems like many in the fandom I’ve encountered have little and less to say to me when I tell them that Tennent is my favorite Doctor… nevermind that I started watching before he was ever cast in the role. It’s crazy because to me fans of something should all get along rather than claiming one group of people deserve to be fans more than another.

Yes. This. Word. I am a Tennant fangirl and I will happily admit it, and yes, lots of pictures of David Tennant is a happy happy thing. I do think, however, that the graphic above would have been much better if it had pictures of all the Doctors, since it’s a post about all the Doctors. I have encountered scorn from people when they find out I’m a Ten fangirl. I love Nine and Eleven too, and I have the utmost respect for the older Doctors even though I don’t really like old Who.

Thank you! I started watching Doctor Who with the ninth Doctor because I was curious what the boys of Chameleon Circuit were always babbling on about on YouTube (incidentally, I found these boys through my hatred of Twilight). By the end of the first season, I was totally in love with the Doctor even though he was totally Not My Type. I found this to be the case with the 10th and 11th Doctors as well….I started out feeling unsure about how my relationship would be with the new Doctor, but soon found myself madly in love. None of them are really “my type” in terms of looks, so my mad crushes were certainly not based on that.

As for the PostSecret…the 10th Doctor is the one I would choose to run away with too, duh. Tennant is so VIBRANT in his role!
