The Hobbit: An Unexpected First Look

  1. 1.An Unexpected Party An Unexpected Party As if to remind me that San Diego Comic Con is but a few days away (and that I wil be largely without internet access for the majority of it), but December is five months away, the production of The Hobbit has released a positively enormous scrolling poster featuring nine separate scenes, full of dwarves walking places. The Hobbit, or Dwarves and Back Again. But more than that: among this new set of images is what is very likely our first look at Beorn, everybody's favorite giant bear guy, who, while I love his character, is easily one of the least narratively important characters in the book, so the fact that Jackson and company have managed to find some time for him in their Hobbit movies warms my heart.

    Lord, I am such a geek.  The rune being explained as a sigil for “expert burglar” is in fact(in Tolkien’s world anyway) the letter “G” for Gandalf.  The map included with the book could be translated by transposition of english letters for runes.  Which I did when I was 12.

    All those spectacular artists working on the films, yet every promotional image is some weak-ass photoshop hackery. *Sigh*
