The New “Ninja Turtles” Movie Shut Down by Paramount, Release Date Moved to 2014

Probably because of karmic reparations for angering fans, pre-production on the new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie has been shut down by Paramount, which has also pushed the planned December 2013 release date back to May 2014. Not surprisingly, the issue is said to be with the script — a script for a TMNT reboot that has abandoned the original story so much that it’s basically another movie that is just borrowing the TMNT name because no one could think of anything better. I’ll pretend to be upset about this right after I stop laughing.

Damon Lindelof to Rewrite the Already-Shot World War Z

Already headed for seven weeks of reshoots, World War Z is still nowhere near ready for post-production. In fact, the part of the movie that wouldn’t even allow the movie to exist — the screenplay — is getting another pass by Damon Lindelof. Rewrites are not strange. Rewrites after a movie has been shot are definitely troubling. What in the world is so wrong with this movie that they’re bringing in the Lost (and Prometheus) writer in at this stage of the game?

Want to Find Out the Real Reason G.I. Joe: Retaliation Is Being Delayed?

You may have heard that G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which was set to premiere a little over a month from now on June 29, was suddenly pushed back to March 29, 2013. Even after Paramount had already started advertising it, and not subtly. As in, there were commercials on TV, during the Super Bowl, and posters outdoors, and Hasbro already had the toys on the shelves. Paramount’s stated reason? They were going to add 3D effects to it. But the real reason? Well, imagine you have this party to attend, but you had a huge zit on your chin, and you popped it, and it’s a big hot mess. Now, imagine that zit is Channing Tatum, and the party is G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

They Are Totally Making a Musical Version of Valley Girl

Paramount and MGM have been working together to produce a musical remake of the 1983 classic, Valley Girl. The most recent news — besides the news that this is happening at all — is that they’ve found a director, and there’s a good chance you’ve never heard of him. Clay Weiner, best known for directing commercials, lobbied heavily for the gig and landed it after using his time off to create and produce a video mashup of all the song that appear in the film. And now we’ll get to wonder: Who could score the role that made Nicolas Cage a star?

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Reboot Has Found a Director

Unbeknownst to many, there has been a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot in the works for the big screen. There aren’t too many details about the story, but we do know it’s live-action. We also know it’s been looking for a director. Today, Variety reports that Paramount has finally found one: Jonathan Liebesman, who directed Battle: Los Angeles.

Guys, this story is very important to me. You have no idea.

More Eligible Animated Films in 2011 Means More Oscar Nominees

Last year, only 15 animated films were eligible for the Academy Award for Best Animated Film, so there were only three nominees (winner Toy Story 3, How to Train Your Dragon, and The Illusionist). But this year, there are 18 films eligible (full list after the jump), so there could be as many as five nominees. Some of them haven’t even come out yet (Happy Holidays, Tintin!), but it’s never too early to guess who’s a shoo-in and who might be snubbed!

Michael Bay Would Like Theaters to Blow Out Their Projection Bulbs, Please-and-Thank-You

Michael Bay likes his special effects. But more importantly, he likes his special effects to be presented in the utmost quality. And now, he is politely asking projectionists in the movie theaters that are playing Transformers 3: Dark Side of the Moon in 3D to kindly brighten the bulbs used to project the movies to a level that will cause them to burn out faster. This will improve the viewing presentation of his films, and will only cost theaters a few thousand dollars to replace the bulbs. You know. Just do him this favor, guys. Spend a few extra thousands of dollars for Transformers 3.

Star Trek 2 Facing Delays Due to Lack of Script, Director

A second installment of the rebooted Star Trek franchise has been a given for a while, even setting a release date for June 29, 2012. But as of right now, there is no official script, J.J. Abrams has yet to sign on as the director (although it seems as if this is still likely to happen), and Chris Pine (Captain Kirk) is set to take over the Jack Ryan role in the next Tom Clancy film adaptation. Will they kick things into high gear to compete with other huge 2012 releases The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers, or will it hold out for a December release?
