Studio Ghibli Game Headed For PS3, Trailer Unbelievably Beautiful

The animation that comes out of Studio Ghibli, the powerhouse Japanese animation film studio, is always remarkably pretty. But it never stops there, as there’s always a compelling narrative to go along with the stunning visuals. Works that have come out of Ghibli include Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Howl’s Moving Castle, and My Neighbor Totoro, among many others. But soon something of a different nature will come out of the studio. It’s name is Ni no Kuni, or The Another World, and it’s a video game being released not just for the DS anymore, but also for the PS3. Level-5 takes on the game development side of the project.

The Another World follows a young boy who, after a tragic loss, is taken to a parallel universe by a male fairy in search of a way to revive his late loved one. He must battle all those who stop him using a spellbook with which he can summon adorable monsters to his aid, or use spells directly on his foes.

The DS version of the game now has a Fall 2010 release date, and the PS3 version should come out in 2011 in Japan, with no word yet on the North American release date. If you want to know whether it’s worth the wait, let the trailer below make that decision for you.

Yes, definitely worth it.
