This Is The J.J. Abrams Star Wars/Star Trek Trailer Mash-Up You Were Looking For

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. A good trailer is a good trailer is a good trailer. YouTuber UnusualSuspect2011 uses clips from the original Star War trilogy and cues from J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness trailer to imagine “Star Wars Into Darkness.” And now I want to see it.

That’s not bad. It still doesn’t make me happy about Abrams directing Star Wars though, but the trailer was very well done.

Yeah, me too. Alyssa Rosenberg over on ThinkProgress had a great article about why geeks should be hesitant for our powerhouse stories to be concentrated into the hands of too few creators, and this announcement exemplifies. What does Abrams bring that other prospective directors didn’t? Nothing that I’ve seen, except name recognition, which isn’t an asset to Star Wars, IMO. His stories are bland and rote. He can direct a good action set piece, but so can hundreds of other directors.

“Abrams bring that other prospective directors didn’t? ” the only people that can answer that would be those involved in the discussions between Abrams and Lucasfilm/Disney.

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t see why everyone on the net is so gaga for this thing. It looks nothing like a real mashup of the two – the Star Wars clips still look like Star Wars, the lens flare text still has lens flare – Yoda’s voice over is nothing like Cumberbatch’s. The appeal escapes me.
