Sophie Turner: Game of Thrones Book Readers Will Be “Super Shocked” By Season Three Changes

“Everything is pretty much the same with one or two… differences. In season there are kind of bigger differences, I guess? The book readers will be super shocked, I think.”Game of ThronesSophie Turner.

Huh. It goes without saying that non-book readers will be shocked by, ahem, certain events in season three of Game of Thrones, but it looks like we book fans won’t be missing out on that front either.

So… yay? I’m frightened, Auntie Em, I’m frightened!

Oh no, after the Walking Dead and all it’s changes and being befuddled by the premier of Game Of Thrones I’m officially scared now… I didn’t like the reveals of Barristan Selmy or setting up and skipping the Sir Dontos storyline.

  • Anonymous

Oh no… did they remove the feasting?! Say it ain’t so!

  • Aeryl

I think Sansa will BE IN ON the PW.

I’m curious though, how did you think they should have gone about the Selmy reveal? Because misdirecting us like they did in the books wouldn’t work on film. They could have kept his ID a secret from Dany and not the audience, but I like that it looks they are setting up Selmy vs Jorah right out the box.

I like the idea of them changing up stuff like this. If I wanted to exactly relive the experience of the books..I’d reread the books. So I’m looking forward to some new twists.

Like you said, I was thinking/hoping they’d hide the identity not from the audience but from the characters. I think it doesn’t matter who the Selmy character is, hopefully we will have some good conversations between him and Jorah.

  • Aeryl

At the same time though, once they revealed it I was surprised Jorah didn’t recognize him, they way he does here.

  • Anonymous

That’s true, but perhaps it could have been the span of time since Jorah had seen him, mixed with his changed appearance, the beard, cloak and use of a staff instead of a sword.

There are a few things I wouldn’t mind them changing *coughShaecough*

  • Isen

GRRM sits in the boat with HBO, I don’t worry about those changes.

  • electrasteph

They’ve done a decent job so far at making changes for the sake of fitting neatly into a simplified storyline, but keeping the spirit of the books. I trust them to keep going.

  • Laszlo

I liked most of the changes so far in the show, so I’m not too worried about this. And some of the changes that seem to be foreshadowed by the trailers also look pretty cool, like Melisandre meeting the Brotherhood without Banners.
The only change I didn’t like in the series was making Xaro Xhoan Daxos straight and evil and killing him off.

  • Aeryl

Exactly! I’m so excited, partly because there are some thing I KNOW are coming and can’t wait to see, but at the same time, I can’t wait to see how they change the books and surprise me. I just have to try really hard not to be that “But IN THE BOOKS” nerd in the office.

  • Helen Grubb

    Where is strong Belwas????

  • Ulla Dahlgren

Yeah I really wouldn’t mind them making some changes regarding Shae. I really like how she’s portrayed in the show.

  • Anonymous

Oh yes. That would be a rather big change, but given how very popular Tyrion is with the TV audience, I could certainly imagine it happening…

    [s.2 spoilers]

Ditto on Xaro Xhoan Daxos! Couldn’t they have kept Rakharo alive longer and had him betray them for Xaro instead? Or, y’know, something similar.
It just seemed like such an unnecessary change. I know Dany had to have something to do during season 2, but I think they could have done the whole “lost dragons” thing without changing Xaro so much.

  • mwakholi

My guess? I am considering the possibility that the impact of shall we say, a certain crimson nuptials will be nowhere near it’s impact in the books. I’ll be surprised if the show is brave enough to allow it to play out to the letter.
