Universal Studios President: “We Make a Lot of S#!?&y Movies.”

In a moment of strange honesty, Ron Meyer, President and Chief Operating Officer of Universal Studios not only admitted but declared that Universal Studios has made some real duds. Among a number of movies, he has harsh words for Cowboys & Aliens.

Wasn’t good enough. Forget all the smart people involved in it, it wasn’t good enough. All those little creatures bouncing around were crappy. I think it was a mediocre movie.

Wow. It’s not that we disagree, it’s just that… Look how sad he made Daniel Craig.

Much to our amusement, Meyer didn’t stop with C&A. Land of the Lost?

Just crap. I mean, there was no excuse for it.

But what about something less recent, like The Wolfman? Babe 2?

One of the worst movies we ever made…Wolfman and Babe 2 are two of the shittiest movies we put out. The script never got right…the director was wrong. Benicio [del Toro] stunk. It all stunk.

Well, you’ve still got Bridesmaids, right?

    Wow that’s the most honest I think a studio exec has ever been. The question is will the acknowledgment make a difference. I’m guessing not, Universal will continue to put out shitty film after shitty film and investing millions upon millions to do so.

    It kinda sucks to be an artist working on these movies and KNOW they suck and then have the guy at the top say “yeah you guys are making shitty stuff. I mean, it looks nice but yeah its shit”. It’s kinda like….i dunno…insulting?

    Cowboys and Aliens wasn’t as good as it should have been, but I wouldn’t call it shitty.  Wolfman, yeah that was shitty.

    I was highly entertained by both Cowboys & Aliens and The Wolfman. (Though I probably wasn’t entertained by Wolfman in the way they wanted me to be.)

    My boyfriend & I were just talking about Cowboys & Aliens yesterday, saying that we don’t understand why anyone could be disappointed with that movie. “There are cowboys, and there are Aliens. What else do you want?! Oh and heck, we’ll throw in some Indians for free.”  How is that not awesome?!
