A Musical, Stop-Motion Send-Off: “The Rifle’s Spiral” by The Shins [Video]

Jamie Caliri has a well-rounded career in music videos and animation (including work for the opening and closing credits for Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events), and for The Shins, he combined both of his talents in this Edward Gorey-inspired, stop-motion video for the band’s single “The Rifle’s Spiral.” There’s much to like about it, especially if you like androgynous magicians, slightly twisted imagery, and bunny rabbits. Perhaps evil ones. After the jump, watch the making-of video.

And now, how it was made:

AWESOME! What’s the distribution plane for a 3D music video, I wonder?

I saw this last week in 3D on Nintendo Video. Definitely one of the better videos they’ve added.

    Video’s better than the song.

I get the Ed Gorey comparison… but I see way more Dave McKean in there.

    It’s definitely Dave McKean inspired…
