The Mary Sue Exclusive Preview: Mighty Avengers #5

Mighty Avengers is Marvel’s Avengers B-team (while the first string flies off to do space stuff like the irresponsible yahoos they are), featuring (clockwise from left) Doctor Octopus in Peter Parker’s body, She-Hulk, Monica Rambeau, Luke Cage, Ronin (formerly Blade), The Falcon, Power Man, and White Tiger. If that’s not a lineup that interests you, well, I guess you wouldn’t want to take a look at this exclusive preview of issue #5, would you?

INHUMANITYTIE-IN! It’s the leadership challenge you’ve been waiting for! Luke vs The Superior Spider-Man – with She-Hulk arbitrating! As in “arbitrating” a robot’s head off! Extreme physical discourtesy the way you crave it, True Believer! Meanwhile, there’s something very rotten in the fallen city of Attilan – and it’s shambling towards the Mighty Avengers! Plus! WHO are the Deathwalkers? Does Ronin know? Wait, hang on, he’s DEAD?

You have my attention. B-list teams are always more fun anyway.

At first I was like: Look at all those women and black folks!!!
Then I was like: Wait, ‘B-Team’???
Now I’m like: B for Badass!

  • Gordon Borland

I’ve really been enjoying Mighty Avengers, and it’s story has been good enough that it makes stomaching Land’s artwork worth it.

  • Elizabeth Wells

    Some things about that cover:
    1) White Tiger is totally standing on that one guy’s head. Don’t try to tell me different
    2) The girl near the bottom right has a really distracting smile I feel like I should know who she is
    3) Monica and Luke are very surprised/shocked by something…
    4) The girl with the triangles on her shirt to the right of Luke appears to be able to read the title.

  • Elizabeth Wells

Um, Mary-Sue? Ronin’s identity was leaked. It hasn’t been revealed yet in the comics. So… ya know, thanks for the spoilers :(

  • Nuuni Nuunani

I thought luke cage was power man (sadly he left the tiara behind though)

Did they reveal a new one?

  • George Trello

Valerio Schiti (who did interiors on Immonen’s GREAT Sif run of Journey into Mystery) is listed on interiors starting with issue #6 which means Land will only be doing covers so, hooray for that.

  • Mr.fiction

Can’t bring myself to read this while Spider-man is still “superior”. Cool team roster otherwise though.

  • Gordon Borland

Yeah I seen that in the solicitations, indeed it was very much a “huzzah’s are in order” moment.

  • Charlie

I’d read it if they got rid of Greg Land. Edit: I’m told Land is only doing covers so Hooray.

  • blu girl

Awesome news! The artwork in JITM was fantastic :)

And yeah, we finally get She-hulk! I’ve been waiting patiently for her to show up.

  • blu girl

The new Power Man is Victor Alvarez from Avengers Academy (above in the black and yellow). Luke Cage is now……. Luke Cage. He’s so badass he doesn’t need a code name :)

  • blu girl

And now I can’t unsee any of it :)

  • Nuuni Nuunani

Aaaah~ I never picked that one up.
I more or less knew about cage, though i thought the name just fell out of use

  • Rx79Immigrant

I haven’t been able to get back to mighty avengers since #2 but I was told there will be some blue marvel on this team. Where is he?

  • ShifterCat

I am so glad I’m not the only one who noticed just how off-putting that art is.

She-Hulk has a dude’s face and WHAT IS WRONG WITH HER THIGHS?

  • de_la_Nae

As another big, tall square-faced woman from a family of such, I don’t agree with you on the face entirely.

That said her thighs are doing something kind of strange there, yeah.
