Overwatch‘s Holiday Costumes are Here! Just Don’t Meet Widowmaker Under the Miseltoe…

Recommended Videos

Cancel your plans tonight, because you’re going to want to log into Overwatch‘s Winter Wonderland event. The seasonal theme lasts from December 13-January 2, and the whole she-bang has gotten introduced with this fun holiday-themed trailer. The most notable part of the trailer has to be Widowmaker lifting up a sprig of miseltoe and then reacting to it with a disgusted stomp. That’s the sort of holiday cheer that inspires fan-fictions, folks.

There are a lot of really cute holiday-themed costumes for several of the characters–some better than others.

My personal fave is probably Scrooge McCree, whose “BAMF” belt has been updated to read “GAMF.” Not sure what the “G” actually stands for, but according to internet theories, it could stand for “Grinch,” “Grandpa,” “Grumpy,” … or, um, “Gay,” again depending on what sort of fan-fiction you’re writing. “Grinch” probably makes the most sense, but really, the “G” stands for whatever you want.

Also available: Winter Loot Boxes, which Blizzard promises are “filled to the brim with over 100 new cosmetic trimmings.” These festive rewards, which can be either purchased or earned, will only be available through January 2nd–so get hopping.

The seasonal event features a new brawl called “Mei’s Snowball Offensive,” which is a 6-versus-6 single elimination mode. Here’s the official description of how it works:

In this brawl, Mei’s Endothermic Blaster no longer unleashes a stream of frost or shoots icicles. Instead, it’s been modified to fire a single, super-powered snowball. Taking down an enemy only takes one hit, but a miss can be costly. Once your weapon is empty, your enemies will have the advantage as you search for the nearest snow pile to reload, so don’t forget to cover your retreat with ice walls and cryo-freeze to block their attacks—and when the battle starts to heat up, you can activate Mei’s Ultimate, which turns her blaster into a semi-automatic snowball launcher, allowing you to fire continuously as your enemies scatter.

More importantly, though, I’m sure there’s just one gif from that Winter Wonderland trailer that you want to see again… something to treasure all year round.

You’ll be pleased to know that animation isn’t just in the trailer, but also in the game:

That’s how everybody’s favorite femme sniper bad-ass wishes us a “happy holidays.” Right back atcha, Widowmaker <3
