    K is for blacK? Really?

    Based on the CMYK color model, to avoid confusing it with blue or brown.

    Yep! Though the graphic is misleading. “K” actually stands for “key” as in “key plate” which in offset printing (the domain of CMYK) is the last plate to be laid down since it will almost always contain the fine details such as type or outlines, and you want those to be on top of the other colors and not muddied by anything being laid overtop.

    This is probably a too-in-depth explanation but as a graphic designer, I couldn’t resist!
