New Trailer for Iron Man 3 Has Lots of Armor; Psychological Trauma

Also, the bunny is still there, and there’s one interesting shot of Pepper that I wish they had just turned into a confirmation.

They really are hinting at Pepper in the suit, aren’t they? At first I have to admit to not having been entirely on board with that idea. It seemed to me that it would have been out of character for her to do that, at least as she’s been portrayed in the films, but the more of these trailers I see, the more I’m convinced that her resolve would harden from these events and that not only will she suit up, but she’ll be a total badass as well.

I am so looking forward to this.

I really hope Pepper aka the most annoying actress ever: Gwyn Paltow does NOT survive the movie. And going by that trailer, I might just leave the theater a happy girl.

Also is that Hulkbuster? Foreshadowing maybe?

I thought that having Pepper in a suit would be a good way for Tony to protect what he loves the most. It reminded me of Resident Evil 4, in which a version of the game has the President’s daughter, who during the normal game is a danger magnet, wearing suit of armor that protects her.

Well one of the big complaints about the movies in general have been that there’s a distinct lack of female heroes and heroes of color. Once you get past Black Widow and War Machine/Iron Patriot, that’s about it.

So making Pepper into Rescue would at least help offset that a little.

I don’t like Gwyneth Paltrow much, either, but fridging Pepper, a fantastic character who can actually wrangle Tony Stark, because you don’t like Gwynnie? Yeah, no.

I’ve seen Avengers 5 times at the theater, will I break that record with this movie?, God I hope so.

This trailer looks pretty awesome, and I really hope we see lots more Pepper and Rhodey in action. The Mandarin, however, makes me cringe. The comics character is just… an awful stereotype, and I really have no idea how they’re going to deal with him in the movie other than the whole “he’s an amalgamation of Asian cultures” thing. So… he’s Cultural Appropriation Man? Or what?

Mostly I just dread the social justice league’s reaction on tumblr. :|

Since a Lego set has Pepper in a suit, I think it’s safe to assume she is gonna be.
More importantly I’m pretty sure this film is the death of Pepper and Happy anyway, and it’ll lead into GotG.

    >Lack of non American heroes
    …Nick Fury….

  • http://www.facebook.com/KozmikPariah Ryan Colson

He seems more non-Asian than Asian in the trailers.

I saw Avengers 7 in theater, hoping this gets 8 at least!

  • http://www.facebook.com/KozmikPariah Ryan Colson

It’s a reference to the Hulk Buster but it’s just a big ass armor. Concept art of several of the suits has leaked, including the Space Suit (GOTG), the Stealth armor, the suit based on the Destroyer that Tony stole from SHIELD in Avengers, the skin suit from the 90s, Extremis, and the one based on his crappy Age of Heroes full of dots! armor.

This is implying she wasn’t great in Royal Tenenbaums so I want to cry now. THANKS

  • http://www.facebook.com/KozmikPariah Ryan Colson

Pepper’s gonna die in this film when Tony chooses the empty life instead of a noble death. And Paltrow hates the films, so there’s that. Happy’ll be out too more than likely.

….Nick Fury isn’t American? I’m pretty sure he is. And I didn’t say there was a lack of non-American heroes, did I?

  • Anonymous

I still don’t understand why they decided to use him period. If you realize the character is so offensive you’ve gotta get a non-Chinese actor just so you don’t piss off Chinese audiences, what’s even the point? Just use a villain that isn’t a racist caricature.

  • http://www.fangirlwithtea.com/ Pamela

Yeah, I don’t understand it, either. Sure, he’s a big villain in the IM comics, but… oh my god, he’s a horribly racist caricature of a Chinese man. And you really can’t remove that aspect of a character called The Mandarin, for god’s sake. I mean, I’m glad that they seem aware of The Mandarin’s gigantic freaking racist issues, but I’m not sure if casting Ben Kingsley is the right solution. I’m not sure there IS a right solution when they’ve set up the movie series to culminate with the Mandarin. Ugghhh I just don’t want to be horribly disappointed by this movie.

  • http://www.fangirlwithtea.com/ Pamela

Do you mean in appearance? That wasn’t my point, really. The Mandarin in the comics is basically a Fu-Manchu rip off, a caricature of the racist way Americans saw (and some still see) Chinese men. What I’m worried about is how the movie is going to handle that racist background of the character, and how audiences are going to react to an Anglo-Indian man playing a character called The Mandarin (which hearkens directly to China).

Kingsley is good enough, but Hollywood seriously needs to stop casting him in damn near EVERY non-white role. Go watch The Whale Rider and tell me Rawiri Paratene shouldn’t be Mazer Rackham. But of course, Ra-who? Seriously casting directors – broaden your horizons.

Is it bad that this reminds me of Twilight, instead. All through those
movies while Bella was defensless and needing to be rescued I was just
yelling at the screen “VAMP HER ALREADY”. So in this context Tony would
be the polar opposite to Edward. Giving his loved ones the tools to protect herself like an adult instead of leaving her infantised and dependant on him.

if by “non-American heroes” you mean “heroes of color,” which is what QueerJock2 ACTUALLY said, then you should know that Nick Fury was originally a white character; he’s only black in the movies and in one title, Ultimate. The only reason people aren’t still actively flipping out about his race being changed AS MUCH as they do about Heimdall (and god people will not shut up about Heimdall) is because it’s Samuel L. Jackson, and even then there are still racist ass comic book nerds who get mad about “political correctness.”

  • http://twitter.com/Valerie_Petra Valerie_Petra

He’s also the Samuel L Jackson Fury in the new Secret Avengers book. He’s the son of the original Nick Fury!

Dear god, don’t introduce Rescue. She was a waste.

  • 2bitkubrick

I think its awesome they went with ultimates/black nick fury, and i also support the change of Heimdall. I heard Donald Glover wanted to be the new spider-man, which also would have been awesome, and there’s rumors that Michael Jordan (the black kid from Chronicle) is going to be the next Johnny storm, so thats cool too. What we need is a Black Panter movie, with a decent storm in it (NOT HALLE BERRY UGH), and a hero’s for hire film. There are great black and female characters in the marvel U, i think they just havent gotten to them yet. That being said, I’m all for gender/race bending in my movies. Making Starbuck a girl in BSG was just about the best thing ever ;)
