Fair warning: Only watch this short film, Escape by Kennedy J. Baruch, if you’re prepared for an emotional gutpunch. In it, a young girl who’s ridiculed by her classmates and neglected by her fighting parents escapes the harsh reality of her everyday life by playing video games, specifically The Legend of Zelda – Twilight Princess. It’s… kinda tough to watch. But still good.

    this was almost like watching my childhood replay but i could do math and i had trouble with reading.
    my dad would have smashed the tv too and i would have gotten the belt. so I feel this kid got off easy.

    This was a pretty accurate portrayal of elementary and high school for me. I didn’t have any of the home issues luckily, but I still sucked at math and then get my SNES games and books taken away from me as punishment when I did poorly in school.

    So poignant. For me it was Star Wars and MMORPGs. Too many unnecessary tears shed over not being “pretty” or “normal” enough. And math is still the worst!

    Accurate portrayal of my elementary school years but without games, it’s sad.
    I haven’t the same family situation but the school was very traumatic for me.

    Sounds familiar, hits close to home especially so because my escape route was LoZ: OoT. Just substitute fighting parents with newly mourning widowed mother aannndd that’s basically my childhood right there.

    Wow, I know all about that kind of pain. Alcoholic fights, and too many tear stained sheets of homework. Only escape was my trusty NES and weekends at my dad. I make it my mission to see that my daughter never has to feel that pain.
