The First Look at Michonne on The Walking Dead Hits the Web

Hey, remember seeing this shadowy, mysterious figure in the final scenes of The Walking Dead last season? And how we later learned this person was, indeed, the character Michonne? Well, a first look at Danai Gurira as Michonne has hit the internet (courtesy of Entertainment Weekly), and yes, we are confident that this woman can save us from the zombie apocalypse. Yup. Yeah, we’re gonna be fine.

No worries about spoilers, unless you consider seeing one of the new main characters of a TV show wielding a sword to be a spoiler:

And there she is! In the comics, Michonne proves to be a strong ally for Rick Grimes. But will she be forming more of a bond with Andrea instead? Here is what the creator of The Walking Dead, Robert Kirkman, offered up:

“The essence of the character — her personality, her motives, everything that makes Michonne Michonne — remains intact from the comics. But like a lot of things on the show, there will be little tweaks and differences here and there. We saw that her introduction is slightly different from how it was in the comic, and her interaction with Andrea is really going to be a really cool addition to the character that I think will get television viewers up to speed, and they’ll get to know her a lot faster than comic book readers did.”

So, in case you were wondering about yet another diversion from the original story, then yes! That can be expected again. But this season’s mission to turn the prison into a safe haven free of zombies will be the focal point when the show returns to AMC in October.

But seriously, Danai Gurira looks so badass and she’s not even moving.

OMFG YES!!! I have been waiting for her since the show started! Andrea turned out to be a big disappointment from the “tweaks” they made from transition from comics to tv. I’m hoping Michonne makes up for it and ups the badassery quota for women.

She looks absolutely perfect for the role and I’d hoping that by ‘interaction with Andrea’ they mean ‘Michonne inspires Andrea to become the badass sniper she’s supposed to be’.

Oh god I hope so. She was such a whiny baby in the last season. Her only redeeming moment was when she supported Dale during the meeting.

Forgive my naive question, but why is does she have two armless black men on leashes?

They’re zombies. I’m not familiar with the series, but according to wikipedia they used to be her boyfriend and his best friend. Doesn’t say why she keeps them around. To mask the smell of a human to other zombies?

That one ten second scene in the season 2 finale actually made me interested in the show again. I can’t wait to see Michonne in action. I just hope the writers don’t do to her what they did to Lori.

It’s been an extremely long while since I read some of the books, but the last book I read had her appearance, and I seem to remember her alluding to them deterring zombies, but only as a beneficial side effect to whatever reason she chained them up in the first place. I don’t remember what it was, but I seem to remember it not making much more sense anyway.

I’m glad she is there. I find this show utterly misogynistic, though I know many of my friends love it. Enjoy everyone!
