Days of Future Past’s 12 Billion Characters Get Biographical Promo Images, Kitty Gets Killer Wrist Guards

[View All on One Page]

Conspicuously absent here is Rogue, whose inclusion in this series raised some eyebrows, because isn’t she supposed to have been cut from the film? (Probably not entirely, as it turns out.) Regardless, everyone else in Professor X’s and Magneto’s merry bands of mutants (plus Bolivar Trask!) gets their own image, with bonus brief character bio, this time around. Be prepared to click. And to be impressed with Blink’s hair.

I really think they all look terrible. I’m so tired of the “modern/gritty EVERYONE MUST WEAR BLACK” phase of comic book movies. I grew up in love with the vivid, whimsical colors of comic books, and that has all been stripped away in the modern cinematic universes. It’s an absolute shame.

I mean, I get it. It’s a dark storyline. But that doesn’t mean everyone has to wear black.

Kitty looks like she may be Ninja Kitty.

So much weiner! SO MUCH WEINER! One has to wonder if ore than five female X-Men even exist. And only one female character in the past. How fun! I’m just glad there aren’t popular female X-Men who have lead teams or been around for decades! Let’s just get more penis. Young William Stryker. Toad! Havok! No one wants them, but we’ll give ‘em to you!

And Mystique’s actions might cause the extinction of the mutant race, and NOT Magneto’s. So let’s see so far the major role of women in the X-Men films have been:
    1. Damsels in Distress(Rogue in X-Men)
    2. Going Crazy Because They Can’t Handle Power(Jean)
    3. Love Interest(Jean)
    4. Sort of just there despite being one of the top 3 most important X-Men(Storm)
    5. Shot Metal Bullets At the Guy who deflects metal despite being a genius who helped form the comics/Wore Lingerie/Gets Kissed and Mind-whipped and humiiated(Moira)
    6. Lackey(Emma)
    7. Stripper/trailer(Angel)
    8. Gave Up Powers to be with a guy with zero personality(Rogue)
    9. Existed to be a part of a love triangle and now exists to send someone else back in time in a storyline which once belonged to her(Kitty)
    10. Now traitor/naked chick(for no reason)/guy hopper/cause of extinction of mutant race(Mystique)

And yet still none of them have personalities, urgency or screentime.

  • Haleigh Yonish

I’m hoping the 70s storyline gives us enough color and flare jeans to balance out the brooding

  • Anonymous

Wait… I’m confused. Didn’t we see Beast going all blue and beast-y in the last movie? Meaning in the past he would…not be blue and beasty? Maybe I’m missing something…

  • Jamie Jeans

Pretty much nailed it there… heck, this was Kitty and Phoneix’s story in the comics, and it should have been here, but Fox can’t seem to get away from Wolverine. He’s become their own personal Batman.

And here I thought all the black leather was becoming annoying, repetitive, and dull.

  • Norman Osborn

Hasn’t Mystique’s reason for being naked been well covered? Not saying you have to like it, but it’s actually a pretty big plot point in First Class, so I wouldn’t say “no reason.”

  • Adrian

I’m hoping the next trailer wows me because I was very underwhelmed by the first one. For now, I’d still prefer a reboot despite loving Jackson as Wolverine.

  • kbroxmysox

It’s a plot point that makes no sense.

“Oh you’re beautiful just the way you are!”
“Okay Magneto, why don’t you take off your clothes now. From what I heard about your nude scenes in Shame, you ain’t bad to look at either way”
    “Well..uh…”

It wasn’t a plot point. It was Mystique finding absolution in someone finding her pretty naked. Why can’t she wore clothes, be in her true form(Mystique looks her hot leather get ups) and still be beautiful. Why does she have to be naked, and therefore objectified about a 1,000 times more(how often do critics writing about the film refer to Mystique as “the naked shapeshifter”)..

So no, there is absolutely no one reason for her to be naked.

  • Adrian

I’m not sure Wolverine will be going back in time just once. There could be several comedic and/or tragic attempts and/or time jumps.

  • http://entirelyawayfromhome.blogspot.com/ Anonymous

I know Kitty isn’t an extremely feminine character, but I’m sure she runs a fucking comb through her hair. Her profile picture looks like she’s been trying to form dreadlocks.

  • http://www.aeryllou.tumblr.com/ Aeryl

They are going back to the past, but it’s post-1st Class

  • Anonymous

Then why is Beast a different (younger) actor? Shouldn’t young Beast be human?

  • Anonymous

Mystique can shapeshift to wear clothes, so why wouldn’t she? Sure, you can come up with an excuse to let her be naked, but the fact is, she’s naked because she’s beautiful and the people making the film wanted her to be naked. I’m just a little surprised that Jennifer Lawrence would do a part like that, considering she has a pretty strong history of speaking out about sexism.

Obviously some parts of First Class did not “stick” with me. Thanks!

  • http://www.aeryllou.tumblr.com/ Aeryl

She did demand a suit instead of suffering the extensive body painting Romjin had to do.

  • http://www.aeryllou.tumblr.com/ Aeryl

I mean, I can see it, a bit. She’s evolved in a way that covers the bits we as a society decided “clothes” should cover. With the skin bumps and all, so she’s not necessarily obscene.

In addition, my understanding of her costume from the comics, was to allow her to take it off easily, to shift to present other people in their own clothing. Whether the comics had any consistency with this, IDK.

Because really, what we saw in First Class, where she shapeshifts to that CIA guy, shouldn’t have happened unless she wasn’t actually wearing clothes in that scene(which she does in others, and shifts beneath, like the weight lifting scene). Nor the one at the plane, because when she presented as Shaw, she was still wearing the jumpsuit. She should have been Shaw, in the jumpsuit, which wouldn’t have tricked anyone.

If she was clothed, and shifted wearing clothes, then the clothes she was wearing wouldn’t shift, they’d stay the same.

So being naked avoids HUGE plot holes like that.

Now the way the movie handled was terri-bad, especially that skeevy scene that showcased her after she decided to go as herself.

  • http://maitribathbody.com/ Maitri

Agreed. And James McAvoy’s hair is absolutely terrible. I’m sorry James – I love you, we’re cool, but no.

  • http://www.aeryllou.tumblr.com/ Aeryl

It’s acting out before it leaves him entirely.

  • kbroxmysox

No, in the comics Mystique can shift no matter what she’s wearing. In recent years her clothes have had more bulk towards, and she shifted anyway.

Plus, why can’t her costume have been suited to that shifting ability than? Have it thinner.

  • http://www.aeryllou.tumblr.com/ Aeryl

Mystique can shift no matter what she’s wearing.

Well that’s just stupid, is it fabric woven from mutant plants?

They could have copied her look from the comics, dress open all down the sides and belted at the waist for ease of removal, and with the throwback look to the old uniforms, would have blended nice. But no, BOOOBS

  • http://www.aeryllou.tumblr.com/ Aeryl

Also, the movie was pretty explcit that maintaining the disguise uses her energy. So if she shapeshifted to appear clothed, she’d be handicapping herself.

  • WheelchairNinja

I figured from the first X-Men movie that the reason she didn’t wear clothes (besides the obvious “let’s have some fan service by painting Rebecca Romijn blue and making her run around naked”) was that it’s easier for her to shapeshift an outfit to match her disguise than to be tied down to a single set of clothes. Saves her the time of having to find a Clark Kent-style phonebooth when switching from helicopter pilot’s jumpsuit to senator’s Brooks Brothers jacket and tie.

  • kbroxmysox

It’s mutant powers. It’s something to do with molecular control of the fabrics or something of the like. It doesn’t make sense, but honestly, I don’t question things like that in movies. I question the logic of her being naked because some old guy says “daddy like..”

  • kbroxmysox

She shifts back to what she’ was wearing. It’s not still shifting. And when did the movies ever establish that maintaining a shift made her weaker? Not only is that not established in comics(Mystique could stay shift as long as someone doesn’t knock her unconscious) , but is has never made her weak. She’s played with people before by doing multiple shifts and was a-okay then.

  • John W

I can’t wait for this come out.

  • Joanna

I don’t mind the reasoning behind her being naked, BUT by the same logic Beast should also be naked, in fact he should have more of a reason to being furry and all.

  • Joanna

    *Jackman

  • Amanda Brand

You were right. I was not prepared for the jacket. But I was suitably impressed with Kitty Pryde’s outfit–new cosplay idea?

Am I the only one really bothered by the text layout? I can barely read the profiles and they’re photos so I can’t highlight them. Design is important in the details too.

  • Adrian

Was anyone else disappointed when Singer announced Apocalypse? I just really, really want a reboot and a new cast and a new vision. Ugh.

  • Anonymous

Well, the old white dress worked fine in the comics…

  • Anonymous

Mystique has no control over fabric in the comics. Almost everytime you see her wearing clothes including her classic white dress it’s just her skin morphed to resemble clothing. She can mimic textures perfectly & her skin apparently has a much higher durability & tolerance to temperatures. She doesn’t have naturally have scales in an unsightly pattern either.
So in the movies she could still be naked but still look like she’s wearing a white dress, but Singer decided to go with ugly costumes for everyone.

  • Anonymous

Exactly. I mean, there’s a legit point about feeling you have to hide who you are, about Mystique feeling she needed to wear a white human face to fit in, but that’s easily met by blue face plus dress, or jumpsuit, or whatever.

  • OOH_JIM

Hey guy, its me. But I’m not Ooh_Jim, I’m Ooh_*James*. This account is inhabited by the mind, the persona, the soul, of the man I’ll be in thirty years. I’m from the future.

Just popped in to say we look back on these costumes and cringe the way I remember we would back in days of 2014, when we’d look back at the headsocks, megacrotch and Liefeld-pouches of the 90s.

  • Anonymous

Singer already dashed my dreams of finally seeing Magneto in action wearing his classic helmet & a vibrant red shirt as teased by the end of First Class. He also lied when he siad in preproduction that there wouldn’t be black leather uniforms in this. I don’t see what tactical advantage they’d provide anyway since Sentinels can track mutants by their genes.

  • Anonymous

Of course I wonder: Where’s Wanda?

  • Anonymous

She looks like Talia al Ghul in Arkham City so you could have a cosplay twofer!

  • Anonymous

That’s what I thought First Class was supposed to be until this movie insisted it was a prequel despite the continuity flaws.

  • Anonymous

“Also the movie made up some BS excuse to keep her naked.” That’s what you really meant to say, right?

  • Adrian

Yeah, that was me when I first heard about First Class. I would’ve preferred it to be the first of a reboot but then they decided to let it all be one messed up continuity. Meh.

Which I guess is fine since the more I actually watch First Class, the less I like it. In my opinion, save for some excellent casting choices, it’s really not that good.

  • Anonymous

Colossus should be most naked of all since he has armored skin & isn’t shy about ahowing it off in the comics.

  • Saraquill

It’s not how I’d imagine Bishop to look in live action, but he’s rocking that hair.

  • Saraquill

I was too busy being bothered by the dominantly white casting to notice, but now that you pointed it out…

  • Brittany K

Whoever made these needed to have thought over their font color for the bio portion a little bit more, they’re really hard to read, not because of the size, but because they’re almost see through or something.

Bingbing Fan is the name of the actor, not the character. And yes, she’s Chinese. I don’t know what you mean that her features are “decidedly Caucasian”.

  • Saraquill

I don’t have the vocabulary for it. What I can say is that the facial bones of the actress, along with the way the muscles and skin sit on top of them, look Caucasian to me.

  • Ryan Colson

Erryone I know seems to think Mystique is badass regardless of having no nipples.

    Jus sayin.

I know Storm is kinda awful in the films but she is still a leader and seems well liked.

    Jean too as I recall..

  • Ryan Colson

    >how often do critics call Mystique the “naked shapeshifter”?

A quick Google with her name excluded in terms of reviews tells me pretty rarely.

I imagine its a dumbb refrrence to her clothes in the comic are aalways naked, and iif an actress had an issue with the paint, they wpuld not sign a contract. At least JL has abodysuit now.

  • Ryan Colson

i daresay ots a result of matrix and cash since they can make legit comicesque suits in photoshop at least.

  • Ryan Colson

the only film excuse is JL saying for the new film…. Mystique decides nude bc she was “hiding” her appearance previously and now she is flaunting her powers by showing she does not look normal.

  • Ryan Colson

did you miss the relatively bright colors in the spidey and marvel franchises?

  • Norman Osborn

Sure, if he felt as strongly and could fully embrace who he is as Mystique does. But he doesn’t, which is also part of First Class’ plot.

  • Trask

Thank you for this, I needed a good laugh.

  • Adrian
  • Travis

If it wasn’t for the “modern/gritty EVERYONE MUST WEAR BLACK” movies of the early 00′s that popularized comic book movies in the first place we wouldn’t live in a world where a movie where Loki wears that absurd horned greed outfit can make a billion dollars.

But Beast’s most iconic costume is just a pair of dark briefs with an optional belt, ergo that’s what he should be wearing onscreen. You can’t improve on the perfection of that sartorial simplicity.

Only three things compel me to see this movie (and I’m a hardcore Xmen fan since my tweens):
    Ellen Page
    Michael Fassbender
    Peter Dinklage

Love J-Law but she is not Mystique. She just isn’t.
    Blink looks pretty rad though…

Hank’s change from human-looking to beast-looking was in the 1960s. The past parts of this movie are in the 1970s, so Beast is younger, but no longer human-looking.

    Right, right?
They need to Get Over goddamn Wolverine. Yes he’s awesome and grim and stuff and I like him too, but he’s not “The X-Man”.

  • Joanna

I think I’d be ok with that =)

  • Joanna

    Ah, good point =)

  • http://www.aeryllou.tumblr.com/ Aeryl

When Magneto messes with her weight training. She’s struggling with the weight, he takes it from her and drops it on her. She drops the disguise to catch it, and he talks about how maintaining the disguise she’s not as capable as she could be.

  • http://www.aeryllou.tumblr.com/ Aeryl

Yeah, that’s why he turns down her offer of sex later in the movie, he’s just such a perv. Look, I’m not defending the call to make her naked, it was a decision made to entice the fanbois. And I’ll even admit there’s a bit of manipulation going on here, their relationship has never been very healthy, she’s slavishly devoted to him and he likely uses a lot of mind games to keep her that way.

But they did a pretty decent job of showing you why she does this in First Class. It’s the first step in her radicalization(think bra burning), it helps to cover plot holes(why her outfits shift when she’s clothed), and it is specifically addressed that maintaining the disguise limits her physical abilities. She couldn’t do the incredible acrobatics she was known for in the original three, if she had maintained her disguises the whole time, that was the point of the scene when she was lifting weights and Magneto dropped them on her. To be able to grab the weights in midair, she had to drop the illusion.

It may not be canon in the comics, but it’s canon in the movies. It’s a retcon, but it’s better than just ignoring it.

  • Alan Kistler

HAHAHA! One of Bishop’s listed abilities is “Superhuman”? Doesn’t that apply to ALL the X-Men?

  • Hugo M

Oh my god…Frankly, Quicksilver’s outfit looks like very low-level cosplaying, and some of the hairdos look sort of amateur-ish as well (Storm, Blink, again Quicksilver who looks just terrible overall). And Blink’s eyes… Okay, I’m all for being true to the comics, but those neon green eyes seem too flashy – personally I don’t think they look good in real life.

  • kbroxmysox

Is she, because Storm defers to Wolverine of all people a lot in X-3.

And Mystique might be a badass fighter, but n the comics she’s much more than that. She’s one of the X-Men’s deadliest foes because she’s a genius.

  • kbroxmysox

Another movie addition to keep her naked. It doesn’t matter what if it’s plot, the intent is to keep her naked so male movie goers can be all “yes, naked chick”

Blah blah excuse blah. She never had that problem in the comics. She was given this problem in the movie so they could have a reason to keep her naked.

I never said it wasn’t. I’m just pointing out that it was established as canon for the movie.
