The Trailer for Cloud Atlas is Vast, Visually Gorgeous

This looks like it will be a very long, winding road of a film. The trailer itself is almost six minutes long; if that’s proportional to how much time they expect us to sit in our seats and watch the feature-length version then we sure hope it’s interesting. It certainly looks epic. Cloud Atlas, based on the novel by David Mitchell, is being adapted by Andy and Lana Wachowski, and directed by Tom Dykwer. From the trailer it appears to be science fiction meets historical fiction, with several separate but interweaving story lines and quite a lot of time-jumping. It also features the dulcet tones of American Treasure Tom Hanks, and that’s always had a remarkably comforting effect on us.

    Although, to be fair/snide, a lot of a trailer’s awesomeness depends on the music…try replacing M83′s “Outro” with “Klendathu Drop” or “Main Theme to ‘The Flash’ (1990),” and see what I mean.

    My first reaction was “oh god a movie based on ANOTHER one of those literary fiction about some 30-something discovering life lessons through old diaries”

    and then it went to the futuristic part

    and the credits said there would be Keith David.

    The director’s name should be Tom Tykwer, with a “T”. He’s a German director. The guy who did Run Lola Run.

    Call me a complete moron, but I have no friggin’ idea what this movie is about…not even a single remote idea, other than it has something to do with different instances of time overlapping with other ones and such…anyone care to explain, please?
