Black Milk Unveils New Middle Earth-Inspired Clothing Line

It’s just screen prints of maps and promotional art? I thought you meant, like, clothing designs based on the costumes.

I want to love it, obviously, but wish it wasn’t all so… lycra-y. Would do the leggings, for sure!

well i think this is only part 1 of their LOTR/Hobbit stuff. personally – i’m hoping for some orthanc/barad-dur leggings

There was one other dress that I could only find a super-small image for (there was an eagle and maybe Frodo?), so there’s at least one more thing in the collection, probably more. Those leggings would be pretty cool.

Nope, this is Black Milk’s thing .They have a similar Star Wars collection.

I’m glad that they’ve finally brought the Middle Earth dress back. That’s what got me into Black Milk in the first place.

Meh; just another version of a T-shirt with a picture on it. I’d be more impressed if somebody made clothes like the movie costumes — but affordable for the average budget. That ain’t gonna happen.

And they don’t do plus sizes? Ridiculous. I may not be able to afford them, but spurning a good percentage of their market like that is nonsensical.

These look suspiciously like The Sims 2 custom clothes when you have no idea how Photoshop works…

Yep, that’s the one, I think. There are some orcs in the bottom left, and Frodo looks like he’s holding a harp. (Must be an Extended Edition scene I missed. :) )

The Star Wars collection is much better. The giant Liv Tyler head dress is weird.

Agreed. If anyone’s going to get a giant version of their head on a dress, it should be Gollum.

This would be much MUCH cooler if the line was actually clothing inspired by Lord of the Rings costumes, rather than over-photoshopped picture of the cast printed onto cheap elastene dresses. I wouldn’t be seen dead in pretty much all of this! :/

I like the map leggings and dress. The ring swimsuit thing is cute if you put it with jeans. Overall it looks very weird to just have all those faces splashed across the tight dresses.

I don’t love these ones as much as the Star Wars line but why all the haters? I think some of these designs are pretty bitchin. Ain’t nothing wrong with a little geeky high fashion.

I guess it’s not really high fashion? To me, it doesn’t look all that different that the generic geek t-shirts with the movie posters on ‘em, except cut for ladies. Which is fine, but nothing really to write home about. I guess with sites like Etsy and pintrest, we’re used to seeing a little more creativity with geek-fashion?

I know! When I saw the article title, I freaked out and thought there would be a new fashion trend that looked like LOTR clothes and that I would actually pay good money for. Nope. Now I’m sad. =(

movie poster on myself. Check out the Fairies Pyjamas for
fantasy-based casualwear.

I like the Middle Earth map leggings, but would never actually wear them. The One Ring suit is cute, but without boob support, I would just have weird pancakey boobies.

who was the horrible designer who originally came up with the idea of putting pictures of people on clothing, and can I please punch them? I have no idea what kind of sane person would think to put a picture of another human being on their body, because it just looks really weird. I’m totally behind the Middle Earth map stuff (though I wish designers would branch out and make clothes in sizes other than mine), but putting Orlando Bloom or Liv Tyler across my torso just comes off as weird.

If you actually follow fashion, then you’ll know that this blown up sublimation look has been trending for a while now. Black Milk does a good job of integrating wearable looks with popular geek subjects. Just because an item is a basic does not mean it’s bad; frankly, it’s more useful that way, because it can be paired in many different styles. And it really depends on how you dress these things. If you have no sense, you’ll be a fashion disaster. But on the other hand, I’ve seen many people pull these off. Also, their quality is fairly good, although it is still overpriced. The shininess is a stylistic choice.

I find a lot of ‘fantasy based fashion’ to be highly overdone, usually with an absurd amount of gaudy ruffles and overuse of bustle and corset. If they pared it down a bit, it might turn out considerably better. But I hardly ever see fantasy based designs that make me say “I can wear that outside and not look like I’m in a tacky costume!” Ergo, this option: accessible “geek chic”. Remember that LOTR and Star Wars are very much mainstream, and Black Milk does not only cater to the hardcore crowd.
