Black Milk Adds New Items To Their The Lord of the Rings Line. What Say You About Them?

[View All on One Page]

Feel free to leave a comment about which one(s) you’re coveting (for me that’s the map dress/tunic top and dwarf leggings). Alternatively, we can discuss Black Milk’s pricing ($85 for leggings?!) and how their clothes are don’t come in plus sizes. Your mileage may vary. Whatever. It’s all good.

WHY is it that all the cute things don’t come in plus sizes!? I have MONEY TO SPEND.

  • Chasity Chung

I can’t bring myself to want such geekery on such short, skimpy dresses…. No offenses to those who like these cuts, it’s just. It’s not the geekery for me :(

  • Rebecca Hiles

These are not the clothes you’re looking for?

  • Sarah Wildmon

Why is it all made out of spandex? lol

  • Anonymous

Busy. They look very … busy.

  • Amanda Burke

I’d like the map dress (which I would wear AS A SHIRT). But really? That much money for Spandex?

  • Sara Crow

Amen, Rebecca. A-fuckin’-men. I am so tired of being a second-class citizen because my genes determined I’d be a short, squat Norwegian with great big Norwegian boobs.

  • Diana OmegaSama Davidsson

So… basically really boring simple cuts with printed posters on them? Why the hell would anyone want that? If they had actually made clothes inspired by the fashions in the films then maybe I would be interested, but these are terrible. Might as well get a t-shirt. Would be cheaper and look better.

  • Curuniel

Eurgh, skin-tight leggings… no. Not my style, even if I had the body for it haha.

I’m usually a big Black Milk fan. I have the Last Judgment dress and the Star Wars Manga dress, both of which I wear with leggings. But I gotta say this LOTR line is a bust. These pieces are not very well designed and the prints are a mess. Too bad, since I loved their Star Wars collection.

Black Milk is the American Apparel of geek ware. Their designs are great, but if you don’t have a ballerina’s body, you’re SOL :(

  • Jill Pantozzi

I do believe they are working on plus sizes. Though the large fits some larger ladies I know very well.

  • Jill Pantozzi

They’re designer clothes, so yes, expensive.

  • Jill Pantozzi

Not nice to judge others. You may not want that style but I know a lot of people who love these.

  • Diana OmegaSama Davidsson

I am not judging anyone, I am referring to the clothes. If people want them, then go ahead. That still doesn’t take away the fact that the cuts are boring and the prints are basically a poster on a dress. It would have been much more interesting if they made fun clothes inspired by the actual fashions in the movies rather than boring stuff we’ve seen a billion billion times before. Like a hoddy in a armour-like cut, or a dress that is as ethereal as the dresses in the movies, only made for the modern consumer. These looks like those anime dresses they sold during the early 2000s, basically a image printed on a dress.
So if you have a fantastic franchise as the Lord of the Rings, then why not do something actually creative with it?

  • Rebecca Pahle

“…the cuts are boring and the prints are basically a poster on a dress.”

“Why the hell would anyone want that?”

So… you’re not judging them, but you think they have awful taste in clothes?

A lot of people like Black Milk. Nothing wrong with that.

  • Jill Pantozzi

It was just the bit where you said, why would anyone want that, that sounded judgy to me, that’s all.

  • Travis Fischer

Ohmergerd! Why is this company making this thing they make instead of making some other thing that they don’t make!

Just like those darned dogs that refuse to meow!

Actually- They’re not *that* extravagantly priced. I mean- They are expensive, but they’re an Australian brand. Clothing in australia is expensive, but if you think about what people earn in australia comparatively- It’s really not that extreme. Leggings at sportsgirl (an australian high street store, upmarket- but still a huge high street store) for example, cost about $50AU on average, and even somewhere more average like Jeanswest is $30. $85 is super expensive from the point of view of other places- but for Australia- Meh. They’d still sell if they jacked up the prices.

  • Diana OmegaSama Davidsson

I have my taste and you have yours. Simple as that. I would not buy it, I don’t understand why people would either when they could spend their money on a poster or, you know, make the same thing themselves if they want it, it’d be cheaper. And really, why would you care if I do or don’t like it? This is a comment section, I just voiced my opinion on clothes I thought were pretty ugly.

If people want to get these things, they can do so, it’s not my money. But I will still thing it’s ugly/boring. Does that make the person a bad person? How would I know? I don’t know them. I just don’t happen to like the clothes. Just like I don’t think a lot of other clothes and fashions are nice.

Having an opinion on fashions or why people would spend money on said fashion is not a judgement on them, (Except maybe on taste) as a person. If that makes me a bad person then so be it.

I guess so will most of the earth’s population be as well. Since most people have different tastes and opinions about clothes.

I think of it as saving me money I shouldn’t really spend on tights. How very thoughtful of them.

  • Jackie M.

I can’t decide what’s more disappointing: that Black Milk apparently doesn’t want the business of fat girls, or that Think Geek apparently doesn’t want the business of girls, period.

  • Jill Pantozzi

Again, it wasn’t your opinion we took issue with, it was the ” Why the hell would anyone want that?” comment that came off as a judgement on others’ opinions on the clothing.

I <3 Black Milk HARD, but I realize that it will likely only be a window-shopping relationship forever. Too bad too, they've had some other fantastic designs such as a universe on leggings, and an awesome shark print on a bathing suit. :(
