The Mary Sue Exclusive

The Mary Sue Exclusive Preview of Faith Erin Hicks’ Adventures of Superhero Girl!

Faith Erin Hicks‘ latest graphic novel is made up of strips from her occasional webcomic The Adventures of Superhero Girl, appearing in full color for the first time ever (thanks to the coloring talent of Cris Peter). Dark Horse has offered us a seven page preview of how those colored strips will look, so come on in and take a sample of the life of Canada’s hardest working girl superhero!

The book, suitable for ages ten an up, will be available in book stores and comic shops everywhere starting February 20th, priced at $16.99, and can be preordered from Dark Horse Comics right here.

What if you can leap tall buildings and defeat alien monsters with your bare hands, but you buy your capes at secondhand stores and have a weakness for kittens? Cartoonist Faith Erin Hicks brings charming humor to the trials and tribulations of a young, female superhero, battling monsters both supernatural and mundane in an all-too-ordinary world.

* A lighthearted twist on the superhero genre!

I vote the old lady becomes the Archnemesis. First Superhero Girl snatches up the good looking cape, then she scares off the pidgeons. This will fester…

I’ve been reading Faith Erin Hicks since she started Demonology 101 years ago. It’s awesome to see her doing so well as a professional. I’ll definitely have to pick this up when it’s out!

I can’t wait for Hicks’ The Last of Us story.

It’s a webcomic, it’s already at It’s black and white though, so this collection will be awesome.

  • Jill Pantozzi

Yup, that’s mentioned in the first paragraph!

Here’s hoping DC and marvel don’t go after her for use of the term Superhero, something they’re still doing to day, apparently. Space marines isn’t the only term being protected.

Demonology 101 got me hooked on webcomics. I love Faith Erin Hicks so much. I own Zombies Calling and Friends With Boys since my local comic shop guy loves her too and actually stocked them.

Nice, love the coloring job they’ve given it for this collection.

Given that it’s this close to publication and the name hasn’t changed yet, I’m hoping that Dark Horse was able to work something out. My understanding of trademark issues is that is if there is legal question it gets brought up earlier in the design process. Fingers crossed still.

If I were a superhero, I can totally see myself forgetting to take my mask off.

Me too – she was doing amazing stuff even back when she was in college. I’ll be a life long fan!
