It’s about umbrellas who fall in love. It’s also an excellent example of the thriving trend of Tertiary Sexual Characteristics in animation.

    Ain’t that the Truth. Though, I thought that’s always been the “Trend.” I’ve heard of the Feminist Theory about “Sex Marking” ‘Females,’ with Hyper Femininity such as with Long Eye Lashes, while the ‘Males’ get to appear either Hyper Masculine (Shorter Eyelashes, Ties, Dramatically Bigger Eye Brows, Broad Shoulders???) or ‘Gender Neutral (The Blue Umbrella Doesn’t have to do anything to be Assumed “Male.”).’

    Yes, Umbrellas aren’t Male or Female, but we don’t want to Risk Digging some Umbrella with a ****, now do we?

    More fascinating to me is the essentially photoreal aesthetic. It could be live action except for the eyes. Quite a departure from Pixar’s usual style, particularly for the shorts.
