Woman was berated until she cried at the male OB-GYN. Then he turned to her husband and allegedly asked an inappropriate question

Going to an OB-GYN appointment can mean talking about personal concerns and asking difficult questions. Patients should still expect their doctor to listen and speak to them respectfully.

Having a partner there can make the appointment easier, but they are not the patient. If a doctor wants to know how someone is feeling, it makes sense to ask that person directly.

One pregnant woman says that did not happen at her appointment. She claims her doctor spoke to her so harshly that she started crying, then turned to her husband and asked why she was so emotional. TikTok creator Asteria (@asteriadamina) shared the experience in a video. She called it the “worst experience” and said she hoped the doctor would be fired.

Then things got worse

In text over the video, Asteria asked viewers to imagine going to an OB appointment where the doctor “berates you so badly that you start crying.” According to the creator, the doctor then asked her husband why she was “so emotional.” When she attempted to explain herself, she alleges he told her that he was speaking to her husband, not her.

Asteria shared more about what happened in her previous video. At 17 weeks pregnant, she had gone in for her four-month appointment. It was her first pregnancy, and she recalled having trouble understanding some of the doctor’s sarcastic comments during earlier visits.

Before the doctor entered, she spoke with staff about constipation that had become painful enough to reach her ribs. The staff discussed options such as MiraLAX with her before she brought the concern up with the doctor.

According to Asteria, the doctor was sarcastic and rude. When she mentioned her constipation, he asked whether she ate greens, then allegedly turned to her husband to confirm her diet.

Her husband confirmed that she had. Asteria felt the doctor was treating her “like a child” by asking her husband to confirm her answer. The conversation then turned to the baby’s movement. She explained that gas and constipation made it difficult to tell, but the doctor allegedly kept pressing her for an answer.

The questions left her overwhelmed. “This is my first pregnancy. I don’t know everything,” she explained. As Asteria began tearing up, the doctor reportedly turned to her husband and asked, “Is she always like that? Like, is she always this emotional?”

When she tried to explain that she was upset because of how he was speaking to her, the doctor allegedly cut her off. “I’m not talking to you. I’m talking to him,” she recalled him saying.

Asteria then called out what she saw as disrespectful treatment from the doctor, which he reportedly denied. Her husband came over to comfort her and gave her a tissue. However, the doctor allegedly continued asking him whether his wife was normally that emotional.

That was enough for the TikToker, who gathered her belongings and walked out for the first time during a doctor’s appointment. Staff later set her up with a female doctor at the same clinic, but she was still worried about encountering the original doctor again.

Afterward, Asteria looked through online reviews and claimed other patients had complained about the doctor as well. Those reviews and Asteria’s account of the appointment have not been independently verified.

Viewers largely sided with Asteria and encouraged her to report the doctor. One viewer commented, “I would definitely be switching drs and reporting him.” Another wrote, “You pay him, he works for you. If he doesn’t work for you, do not go back.” Someone else shared, “I had an ob tell me I ‘asked too many questions’ the same appointment that he ‘forgot’ I was having twins.” Another simply said, “This is reportable to the medical ethics board.”

The experience highlights how communication can shape a patient’s medical appointment. Clear and respectful conversations can make difficult situations easier to handle.
