Keeping important information from a partner gets harder the longer a relationship lasts, especially when the truth involves something the other person believed from the very beginning. Lying about your age can be an even bigger issue. Birthdays, family members, and everyday plans can all make it difficult to keep the story going.
One woman managed to hide her real age from her boyfriend for years before finally telling him the truth. TikTok creator @beefingwitwhobtchnotyu says her boyfriend thought she was older, but when she finally came clean, his reaction surprised her.
In the final part of her storytime, the creator explained that they were around two and a half years into their relationship when she decided to come clean. They had spent the day together, gone shopping, and had dinner before returning home to watch TV. While they were lying together, she suddenly felt guilty about maintaining the lie. Until then, she had considered never telling him the truth.
His response caught her off guard
“I gotta tell him. I gotta tell him,” she recalled thinking. She joked that she had previously imagined the two of them reaching their 90s before finally admitting she was actually two years younger than he believed.
Instead of immediately confessing, she first asked her boyfriend whether he thought their relationship could “withstand anything.” He initially assumed she was about to admit that she had cheated on him. After assuring him that was not the case, she finally revealed what she had been hiding. At this point, her boyfriend believed she had recently turned 19. In reality, she explained, “I’m not 19, I’m 17.”
The creator argued that he had not been given much reason to question the age she originally told him. If they had been dating for 2 1/2 years and she says she admitted the lie when she had “just turned” 17, she must have been 14 when they met. But she says she’d already graduated and was getting tattoos, among other things that made him believe she was older.
She also admitted to editing an image of her ID on her phone, which she had used to get tattoos. When the couple went to a nearby country club, she would use the ID on her phone rather than show him a physical one.
As for how the lie started, the creator partly blamed her boyfriend’s cousin. However, she acknowledged that continuing it afterward was her responsibility. By then, her boyfriend had already introduced her to his family and told them the age he believed she was, making her increasingly reluctant to correct it. Her boyfriend’s eventual response surprised her. Rather than getting angry, he told her, “You know what? I kind of knew.”
He pointed out that he had never seen her ID or birth certificate and had noticed how she handled identification when they went out. According to the creator, he was not upset about the confession. The revelation did not immediately end their relationship either. The pair remained together for roughly another six months before eventually breaking up.
“sh*t did not work out,” she admitted, though she maintained that the breakup was unrelated to the age lie. Several people in the comments were less focused on the confession itself and more confused about how she kept it hidden for so long.
“Did the birthdays not catch u up?” one person asked. “DIDNT SEE THE OTHER PARTS HOWD U MAKE IT 2 YEARS IN WITHOUT HIM KNOWINGGGG,” another wrote.
Surprisingly, others claimed they had done the same thing. “GIRL WTF I REALLY DID THIS TOO,” one viewer commented, while another admitted, “ive done this too and he never found out.” Another commenter claimed to have taken the deception even further, writing, “Girl I lied to him for 3 years about my age name and my descent.”
The creator’s account leaves some details unclear, including her boyfriend’s age, and her story has not been independently verified. Still, at least this isn’t as bad as an LA woman whose dream wedding fell apart when she discovered her fiancé was already married.
