Sickle Cell Patient Refused to be Discharged from Ohio Hospital. He Said They Called the Cops on Him.

At its core, it’s a doctor’s duty to give the right care to their patients. Extra caution is needed, especially when a patient is suffering from a painful condition like sickle cell disease. Groovi (@igroovi), who was confined in Northside Regional in Ohio, told TikTok that he was being unjustly discharged from care because of a doctor’s alleged assumption.
Groovi alleged that the doctor woke him up from his sleep and tried to send him home because he “looked comfortable” while sleeping.
“So, you discharge me because I looked comfortable sleeping when I have sickle cell and am in a pain crisis?” Groovi asked. He seemed visibly agitated on TikTok. Groovi further stated that the doctor walked out on him but followed him anyway. He said he felt disrespected at the time and wanted to continue confronting the doctor.
But then, Groovi opened his room door. Outside, there were at least three officers standing outside of his room. The hospital supposedly called authorities to remove Groovi from the premises because he was “causing a scene.”
The patient noted that it was excessive to send multiple officers just to make one man leave a hospital.
“No, I’m causing a scene now because they want to disrespect me and shit on my sickle cell. I’m done with this shit!” He said. Groovi explained that even though another doctor tried sending him home a day before. He disagreed and stayed because he was still uncomfortable.
But a new doctor came in—the one that allegedly commented that Groovi looked comfortable in his sleep. The second doctor also reached the same verdict—that Groovi was ready to be discharged. His mother also allegedly took the side of the doctors and agreed that he needed to go back home.
He went to other hospitals for treatment
He left Northside Regional to seek further medical care.
Groovi went to St. Francis Hospital after the initial incident. Then, he claimed in a follow-up video that he was also briefly discharged by St. Francis Hospital.
He said that a woman who worked at the hospital told him that he was “not in a sickle cell crisis” based on his laboratory results. Groovi does not believe that his medical issue has been addressed appropriately.
“They discharged me for a third time in 24 hours,” Groovi alleged. St. Francis Hospital was apparently not his second hospital but the third he’s been to. He alleged that the first hospital, which he did not name on TikTok, discharged him for racially motivated reasons.
“I am trying to choose my battles because I am in pain,” he said. Groovi continued, “They don’t even check on me. They just put an IV in me, they drug me up, and they come back with papers a couple of hours later.” He said that he plans to file a complaint against the hospitals.
In the end, Groovi was still discharged. The man still had yellow-tinted eyes, which is a symptom of his condition. Those with sickle cell disease are prone to episodes of extreme pain, which usually manifest in the abdomen, chest, and joints. However, not all hope is lost for sickle cell patients. One man from Lousiana was cured from sickle cell disease after two years of a special treatment.
Pain, however, is not Groovi’s only struggle. Rather, it’s how he feels dismissed by the hospitals he went to.
