Woman thought she was going schizophrenic. Then the people around her started seeing the same things: ‘cover your mirrors’

TikTok content creator Ellie (@makeupxellie) has been experiencing strange, haunted phenomena in her home. She thought she was “schizophrenic” until her friends started reporting the same creepy encounters.
Ellie is enlisting the help of the internet to give explanations for the paranormal activities in her home. Now, social media is playing a guessing game that closely resembles Phasmophobia—except all of this is happening to Ellie in real life.
Ellie says that she lives on a big piece of land with her boyfriend. His family lives on the same land, in a separate house. She contextualized that her boyfriend’s family comprises mechanics, builders—essentially, professions that require heavy boots in their day-to-day wear.
That’s an important detail because Ellie would hear her front door slam open, followed by the sound of heavy boots. Her teaspoon drawer would be open. At one point, all of her teaspoons were stolen by the entity, which she fondly called “the teaspoon fairy.”
It was silly at first until she noticed shadows following from a mirror. Ellie is convinced that these entities are not people—that the land is haunted. These spirits would take the form of people, though. Once, Ellie saw a man on her couch watching television. Other people in the property reported seeing the same man.
Ellie also saw a girl leaning at the top of the doorframe. She noted that she couldn’t see the girl’s face, but she had messy black hair.
Aside from footsteps, Ellie also recalled hearing child-like noises. After hearing footsteps one time, she heard a little child say, “Haha!” through her window. She also heard an old man laughing at one point and a car pull up. The latter, she claims, is impossible, as the property is gated.
A ghost that mimics people she knows
To make matters worse, Ellie said that the ghost often mimics the people she knows. She claims she saw her boyfriend’s little sister in the shower and told him to close the door. He told her that she wasn’t there, which prompted Ellie to call his sister.
The sister said she was not in Ellie’s house, but she could see Ellie walking through her property. That would be impossible, as Ellie was on a call with the sister.
In a different follow-up video she posted, Ellie had an even more hair-raising experience involving her friend. This friend decided to sleep over with her for a few nights. On the third day, Ellie said she saw two glowing lights in the car she was in. Her friend would later go in the living room and claim to have lost something—Ellie found the item and gave it back to her. But at quarter past five, Ellie heard her front door open again. Her friend was “calling” someone on FaceTime and talking to someone else.
Ellie called her friend to clarify if she was in the living room. The friend, in horror, asked Ellie not to scare her. She was on FaceTime, but in the bedroom—not the living room. Nobody else was in the house but Ellie, her boyfriend, and herself. Her boyfriend was already asleep.
It seems that the entity is copying her friend and has even picked up how her friend sounds on FaceTime.
What’s her property haunted by?
Social media had a range of reactions to the phenomena, with one commenter from one of Ellie’s videos telling her to “ask Sam and Colby” to help her. The aforementioned YouTubers are notable for their haunted crawls on YouTube. Although, it’s highly doubted that Sam and Colby can help, given that they’re almost always scared out of their pants whenever they explore haunted locations.
Other social media users were trying to negate the bad energy from the video. But what is the thing, and how can Ellie get rid of the entity in her home? Should she burn the property with fire, douse it afterwards with holy water, then keep a bunch of blessed amulets to ward the strange spirits away?
It’s possible that the property is infested with a demonic entity—at least, that’s how Christian tradition would explain the phenomenon. Creatures that mimic have also been cited in various cultures, with Germany and its doppelgänger being the most famous. They are creatures with different names but function in the same predatory fashion. All trick people into believing that they’re a familiar figure, luring them in for a kill. The only way to avoid these creatures is not to respond to them.
But Ellie said that the spirits in her home have been more quiet than before. The activity hasn’t stopped, but she says that they’re operating more covertly. Could this be a way to invoke a reaction from her?
Possibly—either way, she should get that land cleansed for good.
