Woman Thought She Met Her Soulmate. Then He Shared His Dreams of New York City With Her 'This Felt Like a Horror Film'

It’s rare for two people to meet their soulmate after just one date. At first, Leslie (@caldo.de.les) thought that she and her date were just meant to be. But as the conversation progressed and he started talking about his dream vacation destination, Leslie’s stomach dropped.

“If you want to make content, I’m going to make content out of you,” Leslie told TikTok about her date gone wrong. She accused him of stalking her TikTok page. Because she suspects that he’s still watching her, she decided to upload the story to let him know that she’s aware of what he’s supposedly done.

A month ago, Leslie matched with the man on a dating app. The conversation died shortly after, but he resurfaced after a few weeks with renewed interest for Leslie. He started consistently messaging her, then asked her out on a date. Because she appreciated the effort, Leslie agreed and got breakfast with the man.

A night before their date, the man told her that he just started fasting and working out, so he couldn’t have a big meal. Leslie recently posted on her page that she started her weight loss journey two and a half weeks ago and that she also started fasting. At first, Leslie didn’t pay mind to it—she just found it relatable that they were both into fitness at the same time.

They were too similar

They met up the next day and got their drinks. She got down to business and asked him about what he was looking for in a person.

“I would really like a hardworking woman. I don’t really care if she has kids, I would love someone who takes care of others,” Leslie recalled, thinking of the traits the man enumerated. She noticed that he was describing her—she’s a nurse and already has a son. But again, Leslie didn’t think too hard about the coincidences. Maybe they were just soulmates.

They started talking about lighter topics, like his favorite TV shows. He told her that he loved Grey’s Anatomy.

“Then, he says every single anime I ever talked about on my page,” Leslie said. It didn’t help that she also posted about Grey’s Anatomy frequently on TikTok. At this point, Leslie was suspicious of the man.

To catch him in a lie, she asked who his favorite character is from Chainsaw Man. Her date couldn’t even name the main character properly, only calling them ‘Chainsaw Man.’ She told him her favorite character is ‘Brody’—not an actual character in the series, but her sister’s dog. The man went along and nodded, saying that Brody is “so sick” and cool.

Any Chainsaw Man fan would know that Brody is not a real character in the series. Leslie was convinced that the man was lying about his personality, but she went on with the date and asked him about his dream travel destination.

Soulmate or stalker?

“You know, I’ve always wanted to go to New York City,” her date said. He continued, “My dream is to go to the New York public library and just sit there and read.”

Leslie felt sick to her stomach. She recently posted about her trip to New York City. For a long time, going to New York City was a dream for Leslie, and during that trip, she felt like she got to live it.

“I never in my life thought that my content would be used the way that it’s been used in this situation,” Leslie said. She confronted her date, mentioning her social media handle and asking him if he watches that content creator. Leslie noticed the man become visibly uncomfortable but admitted that maybe a “few” videos of hers crossed his For You page.

“I’m going to be honest. I really want to be a content creator,” the man told Leslie. He said that he was sick of his job and thought that Leslie could help him with his social media career. Leslie wasn’t having any of it. She got up, told him he was creepy, and left.

Social media users weighed in, and many were terrified of Leslie’s story. One commenter wrote, “This felt like a horror film.”

Others were comparing the man to Joe Goldberg, the main character of the hit psychological thriller series, You. Notably, in the drama, Goldberg used to intensely stalk his victims and mimic their interests to create a false sense of connection. Leslie was fortunate to have clocked her date.
