Woman Says She Was Late to Work Because of Period Pains. Then She Was Fired Within 48 Hours of Starting New Job: ‘I’m Cooked’

Starting a new job can be an exciting prospect, but for one woman, her excitement lasted less than two days. Content creator Ray (@bigsisrayy) shared a video on her TikTok detailing the moment that led to her being fired from her workplace within 48 hours of her starting it.
In Ray’s video, which has since accumulated nearly 450,000 views, the TikToker claimed she previously told her followers that she secured a new job. In the spirit of being “open” and “transparent,” Ray wanted to give followers an update on how it’s going, with an on-screen caption that said, “I lost the job on the SECOND DAY.”
According to Ray, she had informed her employer prior to her shift that she would be arriving late to work on her first day. She claimed that she needed to visit the DMV because her driver’s license had been suspended, and alleges that she arrived at work 30 minutes late on that day.
Ray was told she “was done”
On Ray’s second day, the content creator claimed that she arrived five to 10 minutes late to work. She was allegedly on her period and was experiencing severe period pains, which she says made it difficult for her to get out of bed.
Ray says she didn’t inform her employer ahead of time of her tardiness as “it’s not their business” and claimed she would just apologize when she arrived instead. Despite the pain, Ray alleges to have arrived at work with everything she needed, looked presentable, and showed up “with a smile on my face.”
According to Ray’s estimation, she was already 10 minutes late for her shift by the time she officially clocked in when her manager allegedly told her, “Yeah, go ahead and clock out. You’re done.” In the video, Ray was seemingly left incredulous by the turn of events, which would be understandable, as getting fired with no warning would make anyone speechless. “I’m done. I’m cooked,” Ray said.
Ray allegedly didn’t think she’ll get fired for attendance
While Ray had turned off comments on her video, her video was shared on X by user @ImMeme0 and garnered more than five million views. Viewers criticized Ray for her lack of accountability and for seemingly blaming her former employer for letting her go. “You couldn’t even make it through 48 hours without being late… and you thought that was acceptable?” ImMeme0 said in their caption.
Other users also claimed that Ray’s actions are the reason why probation at work exists, and alleged that the employer saw Ray’s tardiness as a possible recurring issue in the future. “To all of those who think she shouldn’t have been fired: You know if she hadn’t been fired, she also would have been late on her third day, right? And also on her 4th, 5th, etc.” one user said.
Another comment said, “You can’t miss work like that when you’ve just started a new job, and I’m sure the employer saw that it would likely always be a problem with her, and didn’t want to deal with it.”
In Ray’s follow-up video, she admitted to not taking into consideration the company’s attendance policy, but claimed her employer didn’t listen for a reason for her being late nor explained how important they view punctuality. “If it was so high to that extreme, I thought they would’ve made the brevity of that situation a little bit higher,” Ray said.
Ray stated that there are also other factors to consider that get someone fired, like an employee who was sacked after his video went viral. She criticized commenters for allegedly assuming someone’s character based on a 60-second video, but claimed she is “still living my life” and remains resilient in the face of criticism. The content creator’s job title and former employer remain unidentified.
