Woman Says She Regretted Her Response After Two Strangers Asked About Her Shirt

A TikTok user named Amy (@amymaurercree) claims that she has not become less socially awkward as she has gotten older, but her most recent video has brought a debate. In her video, Amy mentioned that she was out for a walk, wearing a “I have rabies” T-shirt, when two men approached her and asked about the message on her shirt.
According to Amy, she responded by offering to bite them to find out if she had it. Amy said she later considered her response “weird” and “creepy,” and felt embarrassed by the exchange.
She added that what made things even worse was that the guys responded with, “No, thank you.” The video went viral as viewers discussed her unexpected response and the social awkwardness that followed.

While sharing the story, Amy admitted she was slightly embarrassed, saying, “I don’t even know if I can tell this story because you’re all just gonna mass unfollow me. The secondhand embarrassment will be too much to bear.”
Amy hadn’t anticipated the encounter she had with the two guys, and we’ve seen that happen before, but she could probably have done that better. However, nerves tend to take over in those situations.
Amy’s video has over 6 million views and more than a million likes. It also has thousands of comments, shares, and saves.
Some people in the comments section of Amy’s post find what she experienced very funny, unlike in another case we know, where the video’s intent didn’t quite match the audience’s response. A user wrote, “I thought that was hilarious, I’m going to be alone forever huh?” Another said, “ok, this one made me laugh out loud….maybe it’s the trail…..it seems to always happen in the woods.”
Some users have even shared similar stories to that of Amy’s. A user commented, “Last week I was carrying a heavy grocery bag and a man said “can I help you carry that to your car?” And I said “I’m parked pretty far” and he said “nevermind.”
Another user remarked, “I’m 46. I’m downstairs in our laundromat folding bed linens into bundles. This too-close man asked me: “where did you learn how to do that?’ I stopped, looked up into the distance and replied: ‘Prison.’”
Social awkwardness can arise from many different factors. Sometimes, a single factor is the cause, but often multiple factors come together to create the condition. Additionally, social awkwardness can be persistent in an individual, or it can be fleeting and only surface during specific occasions.
