Woman Posts Video of Daughter, Then Meta AI Suggests Question Enquiring About Her Kid, Now She Is Urging Everyone Not to Post Their Children Online
No parents deserves to feel this way
AI has received substantial negative publicity, leading many to hesitate to embrace it without question. It has been a prominent subject of debate across the internet, in courtrooms, and in government discussions, yet no clear resolution seems in sight. In fact, concerns about AI have only increased over time, and Kalie Robins (@master_build88) is one of the many people raising them.
In a TikTok video, Robins said she uploaded a video featuring her daughter, and Meta AI suggested some worrisome follow-up questions. “Yesterday I posted a completely innocent video of me and my daughter singing in the car, and Facebook put a Meta AI question underneath it that said, ‘Who’s the child passenger?’” Robins said.
Expressing her frustration, Robins said, “First of all, why in the hell is that even a suggested question about a minor? But I clicked it, and this is where I started getting really uncomfortable.” She said Meta AI started digging and pulled information about each of her kids, including their names, birth information, pictures, and videos, and she showed evidence of the same.
Not just that, Robins even alleged that it pulled a newborn picture of her daughter from her mother’s page that was uploaded several years ago. Now, here’s where things get really, really creepy and scary.
Robins mentioned that a picture she had deleted a long time ago from her account of her daughter appeared on the Meta AI search.
“I deleted this picture years ago. I’m not going to pretend that I know how it works, and I know this picture has not been sitting on my page for years,” Robins said.
Robins’ rant against Meta AI didn’t end here. She also spoke about other disturbing details she learned while investigating the matter. She said Meta even suggested ways to find her current address. “Facebook suggests that I ask Meta AI where does Kaylee Robins live? Are you kidding me? So I clicked that too,” Robins said.
“It starts digging through completely unrelated shit from years of my life,” Robins said. She mentioned that it started looking through her old posts and connected them to where she currently lives and where she used to live. “And then it says I’m pointing Kaylee Robins’ location. It pieced together my information to show people where I live. There was no location on that real,” she said.
“Keep your kids off the internet!”
Robins said that after learning what was happening with her information, she would remove all traces of her children from the internet. She also said she would ask her friends and family to remove their pictures. Additionally, she said she wanted to raise public awareness about the issue so more people understand the repercussions of putting their kids online.
People in the comments section of Robins’ post weighed in on the issue. Among the more than 2,000 comments, a few cautioned Robins and others against putting their children online. One user wrote, “Yep. Keep your kids off the internet!” Another said, “This is why we don’t post our kids online.”
A few others spoke about the dangers of AI and how things can get very complicated very fast in an age where it exists. One user commented, “You just said it pulled a deleted photo. At this point, even removing our information is pointless. The whole point of social media when it first came about was to connect with each other. We need to stop shaming parents and start blaming the companies allowing AI to do this to us.”
Another user echoed a similar sentiment. They said, “This isn’t a parenting issue! This is an AI/internet issue! This is ridiculous and I’m sorry but I truly believe regardless if you post them or not people can still find ANYONE they want! It’s a scary world we live in!”
Given AI’s capabilities, it’s probably safest for Robins to keep her children offline permanently. Who knows what additional information Meta AI might have that could be even more hazardous than what’s already known. Honestly, none of us fully understand how AI works or what can happen when it’s exploited to its full potential, although we have seen a few examples here and there.
