Woman pays for Upper Class seats on Virgin Atlantic. Then alleges the service was ‘bottom tier’: ‘Guess who doesn’t get their drink order and crisps?’

A one star experience

A woman named Mui (muinatabdul) on TikTok is narrating her experience flying with Virgin Atlantic in Upper Class. She said that after a few complications, she finally boarded the plane with her partner, but as soon as she reached her seat, she saw someone else sitting there. After she enquired, the person allegedly said they were trying to sit beside their family but got up after Mui arrived.

Mui highlighted that she was a little bummed that she didn’t get a fresh seat, as the person before her had left it wrinkled. “It’s like, annoying, you get to your seat, and…it should be made up and done up a certain way, but someone’s already sat in it and messed up the whole area, so that sucked,” Mui said. She added that she looked to her left and found the table on her seat was broken, and that she was the only one with it.

Mui then spoke about the service on the plane, noting that it was unsatisfactory. She said she and her partner were told the plane was full and they should be patient with the service, but noted that every time they were served, they were last, despite not being seated beside each other.

Speaking about how they struggled to get their drinks and snacks, Mui said, “They came and took our order for a drink, and they’re meant to bring in your drink, and you’re famously meant to get these Bloody Mary crisps…. I watch everyone…around me get their drink order and get their crisps.” Mui added, “Guess who doesn’t get their drink order and crisps? Me and my partner. He has to call a crew member and ask them to bring him his drink and his snack.”

Mui also said that, as part of being in upper-class seats, she and her partner were supposed to get drinks and unlimited snacks. However, she alleged that when her partner went to get the snacks, there were none and no one to serve them drinks.

That said, Mui revealed that not all of her experiences on the plane were bad. She said that the food she had was good, including the fish and the sticky toffee pudding, which she says “slapped.” She also appreciated the in-flight entertainment and that her seat came with a footrest. However, she said she would not travel first class again, especially because the services and facilities she received weren’t first class.

“I don’t think it’s worth it. I’d hesitate spending a lot of money to fly for like upper class, first class ever again. Because the service I received was not upper class. The service I received was bottom tier, I think. I think I’ve had better service in economy or economy premium,” she said. Highlighting all that went wrong during her journey, Mui said, “I got served last. People forgot my drinks. People did forget my snacks. I wasn’t really looked after. I had a broken chair. So, yeah, that was my experience flying upper class.”

“You should complain”

Some people in the comments on Mui’s post asked her to file a complaint about the issue, possibly hoping to get compensated for her troubles, as an LA woman did partially. One user wrote, “Sorry you had this experience. You should complain share your experience with the airline operator because what you experienced was sub standard and not acceptable.” Another said, “Honestly this is not okay- I agree with others to definitely feedback and let them know. Upper is meant to be a premium feel, not feeling like an afterthought.”

A few people also shared similar experiences. One person commented, “I had a broken seat twice on BA business class and crew were just SO chill about it and I was like ???? I just paid a LOT for this seat, so disappointing I feel you.” Another stated, “I flew Singapore Airline business class once and had a broken attendant call button. The wait they were apologetic and gave me a gift voucher. Singapore airline service is just another.” Several others voiced their opinions in the comments.

Mui did not provide an update on the issue on TikTok and appears to be having a great time during her vacation in Orlando, as seen in her other videos.
