Woman loses her home in a fire, then BarkBox sends her fire-themed toys: ‘Let me know if you think this was a coincidence’
They did her dirty

A woman is in a fix about something and is genuinely asking for insights on the issue. In a TikTok video, Karli Breanne (karli_breanne) asked her followers whether what BarkBox sent her was a coincidence or “intentionally malicious.”
At the beginning of her video, Breanne said her house had burned down and that she had to contact BarkBox to cancel her subscription because her address was no longer the same. For anyone who doesn’t know, BarkBox is a monthly subscription service for dogs that sends a box of themed toys, treats, and chews directly to your doorstep.
When Breanne made the call, a BarkBox employee apparently offered to replace the toys destroyed in the fire free of charge and asked for her new address. They kept their word, but in the video, Breanne seemed surprised by the package’s contents. “The free toys they gave us are roasting marshmallows and a fire because my house burned down,” Breanne said before breaking into laughter.
“They said free of charge but not free of trauma”
Breanne asked for input, and that is what she got from people in the comments. Her video received more than a thousand comments, and some believed that, while they might not have been “malicious,” BarkBox played a prank on Breanne. One person wrote, “They said free of charge but not free of trauma.” Another said, “It’s a risky joke, but personally I think it’s hilarious.”
A few others considered it a coincidence that Breanne ended up with the toys, with some noting that the toys for the month were indeed campfire-themed. One person acknowledged this, while also suggesting the possibility of BarkBox cracking a harmless joke. They said, “I’m screaming…the toys this month are campfire themed but they also could have given you back stock of other toys and BarkBox is know for having a sense of humor so I think it’s pretty 50/50 that this was on purpose.”
Another person supported these claims but spoke of a different themed box. They wrote, “This month was the fall box. We got smores, a fire, and a moose dressed like a lumberjack. It’s an unfortunate coincidence.”
While these conversations were light-hearted, some comments delved into more serious topics like loss, grief, and using dark humor as a coping mechanism. One person wrote, “So my house was gutted by a fire and we lost our pets – I have been left with a very dark sense of humour. My favourite is when the house is dirty and I joke we should burn it down again. And how much easier decluttering was when the fire did the work.”
Similarly, Breanne, despite her unfortunate circumstances, seems to use dark humor to cope with her situation. She asked her audience a question seeking answers, yet she was laughing throughout. Her optimistic attitude is evident across her profile, especially in videos where she talks about the house fire, where she consistently maintains a positive attitude. For someone who has quite literally lost everything, Breanne sure shows a lot of courage.
