The London Underground station may not officially be haunted, but the considerable lore surrounding it can certainly make you believe otherwise. Rye (ryehasarrived) had an eerie experience while standing at the Bethnal Green tube station at 3:50 am, which she documented in a TikTok video.
Standing with a few containers of food, Rye said into her mic, “It is 3:50 am, and I’m at another London Underground station, and the platforms are empty. Even the one over there is empty.” Then, shortly after, she descended into full-blown panic when she realized no one had arrived at the station, despite hearing footsteps rushing down the escalator. “What’s that noise? Can we stop it?… Guys, I can hear noise. Like somebody is, like, coming,” she ended her video, saying.
The London Underground network, believed to have been built around the 1860s, is thought to have been constructed by engineers who cut through plague pits, burial grounds, and crypts. In addition, in 1943, 173 people died in a crowd crush at Bethnal Green tube station. Over time, people have reported witnessing various anomalies in the London Underground which some consider signs of haunting activity.

Rye’s video has caught the attention of people on TikTok much like Kalei’s story did, as shown by the more than 900k views it has received. Her video also has thousands of comments, shares, and saves.
While Rye was likely no longer in the situation she filmed, some commenters suggested ways for her to handle it. One individual said she should pretend nothing is wrong. They wrote, “u have to pretend u hear NOTHING. Act normal or theyre [sic] coming home with u.” Another individual reacted similarly, urging Rye to leave the place as soon as possible. They wrote, “My sister just hurry and get home lol you are stressing me out.”
A few people in the comments were worried about something else entirely. They discussed how it was better for Rye to encounter a ghost at that hour than another person. One person said, “Girl at that hour and you being alone in the underground, I would be more concerned about it being an actual person than a ghost… Braver soul than I am.” Another person commented, “I’d be more scared of a creepy person being there at that hour than a ghost…is it even safe to then walk home alone?”
Some people in the comments discussed the Bethnal Green Line, saying it was known to be haunted. One person wrote, “Bethnal Green is haunted it was bombed during ww2 and dozens of women ancd [sic] children died.” Another wrote, “Bethnal Green is really haunted. By incident /tragedy in ww2 when I was there last week at night I heard and felt cold spots.”
Some individuals questioned Rye’s decision to be at the station at such an hour. One person said, “You’re on an underground at’ witching hour’, asking ‘what’s that noise?’” Another wrote, “Why are you on your own at a tube station at 3:50 AM? I mean seriously.”
Whether Rye should be at the station at that hour is a secondary concern. If you listen closely to the video, it does sound like someone is rushing down the escalator, but the noise disappears completely after it peaks.
Rye claimed she didn’t see anyone around. However, there is reason to believe someone was there, since she doesn’t turn the camera around to show viewers. That said, her insinuations that her experience cannot be explained logically may be true, especially since similar documented occurrences have been reported elsewhere.
