It took her years to leave home.

Woman from Louisiana said her mom wanted to surrender her to CPS. Instead of arresting the mom, they handcuffed her daughter

Kate Hall Wilson (@katehallwilson) from Louisiana claims she had a turbulent childhood. After dozens of calls to Child Protective Services (CPS), an unlikely hero stood by Wilson’s side and stepped up when she needed it most.

“I was adopted by my high school math teacher,” Wilson revealed on TikTok. At thirteen, Wilson said she was taken from her biological mother and then returned to her custody. When she started high school, Wilson said her teachers noticed something wrong with her home-life situation.

“So, my high school math teacher, Alicia—remember the name—hits up CPS,” Wilson said. Her math teacher reported the alleged abuse happening in Wilson’s home, informing CPS that she needed help. Alicia also informed the school counselor, and they also called CPS regarding their student’s predicament.

When the CPS officers came to her home, Wilson alleged that her mother told them to take her. In response, CPS allegedly called the police. Wilson thought her mother was about to get arrested.

She continued, “No, I get handcuffed, put in the back of the police car. I was placed in a mental hospital because there was no group home for me to go in yet. There was no room. I stayed there for about a month, and since Louisiana is a reunification state, I went back with my mom.” Wilson isn’t the only one who felt wrongfully handcuffed by authorities. Another woman said that while bleeding after an altercation with her ex, police chose to handcuff and arrest her instead. Despite what she endured, Wilson wasn’t alone in her journey.

Her teacher stepped up when CPS couldn’t

She alleged that the state of Louisiana would do anything to keep the child with the parent, even though, in her case, she was unsafe. Regardless, Wilson went back to school, even though the alleged abuse continued. Alicia and her school counselor kept calling CPS. But after four years in high school, Wilson was still stuck in the same home.

“Alicia tried so many times to foster me. She let her children—her biological children—know that, ‘Hey, this girl’s going to be staying with us.’ It was a conversation they had,” Wilson said. Her high school teacher’s family was ready for Wilson to move in. Unfortunately, however, the move to Alicia’s didn’t happen. Wilson alleged that the system “severely failed” her.

She stopped being her teacher but continued to be her mother

“I graduate high school, and my biggest fear was that I was going to lose my relationship with Alicia, because she was the one person that made me feel safe,” Wilson recalled. Her ties with Alicia were not severed, and Wilson said she continued to be her mother figure.

After moving out, Wilson went no-contact with her biological mother. She was about to get married, and she asked Alicia to be the mother of the bride. “Because if anyone deserves that role, it’s her. She’s genuinely the best person I’ve ever met, ever,” Wilson said. On her wedding day, she asked Alicia to adopt her.

“Now, I have a mom. I have two siblings, and the most incredible family that I could have ever asked for, genuinely,” Wilson said. Aside from Alicia, Wilson was eager to have a large family with aunts and uncles, who also welcomed her into their fold. She added, “This is everything that I hoped and dreamed for.” Some parents will go to great lengths for their child. For this man from Ohio, there was no state line he wasn’t willing to cross to be reunited with his son.
