Woman allegedly went on Tinder and swiped right on a hitman. Now, she faces the possibility of federal prison
She got catfished.
Officially, Tinder is, by design, used to meet and connect potential romantic partners together. While some have taken to using the dating app to conduct their own research in recent years, others seem to use it for more nefarious means, such as when a woman allegedly hopped on the app and swiped right on a hitman she hired.
28-year-old Jaclyn Diiorio, a hairdresser in Runnemede, New Jersey, had been charged on two counts of using interstate commerce facilities in the commission of a murder-for-hire, per the Department of Justice (DOJ) in a press release on Sept. 9. The indictment, filed on Sept. 3, came after Diiorio was accused of hiring a hitman to murder her ex-boyfriend and his daughter.
According to the DOJ, Diiorio has used her cellphone to commission a confidential informant to target Matthew O’Hanlon, a Philadelphia police officer, and his 19-year-old daughter in exchange for money. The incident allegedly occurred from March 30, 2025, to around April 5, 2025, in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Diiorio supposedly found her hitman match on Tinder
Diiorio allegedly met the informant on Tinder and, believing that they were a hitman, began exchanging messages and phone calls with them from March 31 to April 3. Camden County prosecutors claimed that her conversations revolved around a plot to murder the father-daughter duo, a month after Diiorio had ended her relationship with O’Hanlon.
Diiorio and the supposed hitman first met in person at a Wawa in Runnemede on March 31, and later again at a Dollar General store on April 4. In their second meeting, Diiorio was said to have paid the informant $500 as a down payment to carry out her act of resentment, with a promise to pay around $12,000 in installments, per the NY Post.
It seemed Diiorio was catfished on Tinder, as the informant reportedly alerted authorities in Camden County, who later notified the Philadelphia Police Department of the murder-for-hire plot. Diiorio was subsequently arrested in Gloucester Township by the Special Response Team in April and was allegedly found to be in possession of an unlabeled bottle of pills, suspected to be alprazolam.
This isn’t her first try
Following her arrest, Diiorio had been charged with one count of first-degree conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of first-degree attempted murder, and one count of third-degree possession of a controlled substance. Federal prosecutors say that this was not Diiorio’s first attempt to murder her ex-boyfriend and his daughter through a hitman.
The informant was allegedly told of Diiorio’s previous attempts and how she was deceived by fake hitmen, who claimed to have completed the task by providing her with fabricated photos. Now, Diiorio is scheduled to stand before US Magistrate Judge Scott W. Reid in a hearing on Sept. 14. Diiorio’s lawyer, Robert Gamburg, said the hairdresser intends to plead not guilty and has filed a motion to drop the charges, claiming that the evidence was obtained through entrapment.
Meanwhile, if found guilty, Diiorio may spend up to 20 years in federal prison. Who knew swiping right could lead to a conspiracy?
