Los Angeles Woman Books ‘Elegant’ White-Walled Wedding Venue. Then the Astronaut and Sailboat Mural Appeared: ‘No Heads Up’

Planning a wedding can cause anxiety and stress. Now, a Los Angeles bride says she discovered her wedding ceremony backdrop had changed, leaving her worried that the venue she booked no longer resembles the setting she originally paid for. The woman, Mariah (@murrcraig), shared a viral TikTok video in July 2026, showing what she says was the original ceremony backdrop and what she claims now stands in its place. “My wedding venue changed my ceremony backdrop from this to this without telling me,” Mariah says in the video. “And apparently this is the final product.”

The TikTok includes side-by-side images that she says show the previous backdrop, which features an all-white architectural design, and the updated version, with colorful illustrations.

“Yes, those are astronauts and sailboats,” she says. As of publication, she has not shared a follow-up, and she does not identify the resort or venue by name or disclose its location.

Mariah claims she paid extra for the “premium” space

In her post, Mariah added, “This also was considered one of the resort’s premium venue spaces that we had to pay an additional premium fee, because it looked like this timeless, elegant, all-white.”

According to Mariah, the venue never contacted her before making the change. “No email, no phone call, no heads up,” she says. Instead, she says she learned about the redesign because “another bride posted a warning in a bridal Facebook group.”

After discovering the change, Mariah says she began reading comments from other brides who also booked weddings at the venue. “I was one of many upset brides,” she says.

According to Mariah, some brides who had already contacted the venue reported receiving disappointing responses. “Those that had heard back were being told no refund, no compensation and apparently if we don’t like it, we can pay to drape it ourselves,” she says.

She also shares what she describes as another response brides allegedly received from the venue. “We should actually just be happy that we’re getting a private venue,” she says before adding sarcastically, the premium fee still applies, “because astronauts and sailboats are premium.”

Mariah says she reached out: no response

Mariah says she had still not received a response from the venue’s on-site wedding sales adviser when she recorded the video. “So it’s now been day 7 or 8 for me,” she says.

“My wedding planners have suggested I start a petition and start gathering brides’ signatures and wedding ID’s,” she says. Mariah ends the video by expressing hope that the issue will receive a response.

The video prompted viewers to discuss whether the reported change could affect the couple’s agreement with the venue. One commenter wrote, “READ YOUR CONTRACT FOR SURE! This may be a breach of contract on their end.”

As of publication, Mariah has not posted a follow-up identifying the venue, sharing a response from the resort, or confirming whether the backdrop issue has been resolved. Because neither the venue nor its location has been identified publicly in her posts, those details remain unverified. The claims in the video reflect Mariah’s account of the situation.
