‘Uber from hell’: Woman books ride to Miami cruise terminal. But then her driver makes a request that turns the trip ‘uncomfortable’
That was probably very awkward for everyone involved.
Uber drivers often witness situations that most people normally wouldn’t encounter, simply because they interact with so many individuals in their line of work. However, there are cases where it’s the other way around, and the rider is on the receiving end of unforeseen interactions. Sam Souder (@soudersam) found herself in that predicament, detailing her uncomfortable journey when an Uber driver allegedly urinated in a bottle.
While getting ready to head out, Souder gave viewers a quick storytime on TikTok about her experience booking a ride with the rideshare app, describing it as an “Uber from hell.” According to Souder, she had landed in Miami and was on the way to the cruise terminal for her trip.
The trip, however, was off to a rocky start when what should have been a quick 15-minute ride from the airport to the port turned into a nearly three-hour journey because of bumper-to-bumper traffic inside the terminal. “Guys, if you have a cruise going out of Miami, get there four hours in advance,” Souder advised viewers.
Uber driver tells them to look away
The Uber ride started normally at first—placing luggage in the trunk and making small talk with the driver. But in the middle of the trip, the driver suddenly told Souder and her friends to “look that way.” Confused by the sudden order, Souder thought he was trying to switch lanes and needed help knowing when he could make the merge. Souder, however, quickly learned that was not the case.
“I turn around, I’m like, ‘No, no, you can’t go yet.’ And he’s like, ‘No. Turn that way,’” Souder said. “He’s like, ‘I have an emergency, and I have to pee.’” Souder and her friends were, understandably, stunned by the information, as being stuck in a car in barely moving traffic with a male stranger allegedly making an odd request isn’t exactly an ideal situation for a woman.
Souder and her friends didn’t know what to do at that point, and they couldn’t communicate with each other without tipping off the driver because Souder’s phone battery was dead. Abandoning the Uber ride wasn’t a viable option either, since she couldn’t just leave her luggage containing clothes and medication behind. In the end, the two just turned their heads as requested and toughed it out while the driver relieved himself.
She says the rest of the journey was awkward
“It was very uncomfortable,” Souder recalled. According to Souder, the uncomfortable air stretched on for another 45 minutes until they finally arrived at the cruise terminal. It probably didn’t help that they were acutely aware of a bottle of urine sitting just inches away from them.
Looking back on the incident, Souder doesn’t blame the driver for making that request, given the circumstances they were in. “I honestly really just think that he needed to use the bathroom. He was a little bit older,” Souder said. “Cause what do you do? You can’t leave your car in the middle of moving traffic.”
Viewers agreed that the number of travelers coming out of Miami to head to the cruise terminal compounded the traffic delays. “Yes that terminal is insane,” a commenter wrote. Another commenter thought her experience was “wild.” While a third comment expressed their shock at her phone’s battery state: “Tbh, i was more shocked that you were starting your vacation with a dead phone. Thats wild.”
If Souder learned anything from this experience, she told viewers that they should always keep their passport, medication, and wallet with them at all times in case an emergency ever occurred.
