Melania Trump Takes Aim at Jimmy Kimmel after Shooting Incident

Melania Trump is asking ABC to take action after Jimmy Kimmel made a joke on his late night show.

Before the incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, the comedian had to make a joke about the upcoming event. However, the attempted shooting ended up making the bit a little bit too real for Trump’s comfort.

Kimmel cracked, “Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow.” The audience in attendance for Jimmy Kimmel Live! laughed. But, now the First Lady is calling for ABC to take the comedian off the air for the events that would play out a few days later.

This particular segment aired two days before this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Now, authorities have taken a man into custody as the attempted shooter. Conservative voices are calling for increased funding for the President’s planned ballroom at the White House. As they think he will only be safe inside of a bunker in the case of true calamity.

No one knows what will happen day-to-day in The United States anymore. Some of that is by design. The conservative trifecta that owns control of the Senate, the House, and the Presidency helped usher in an environment where a crazed man with a firearm could streak into a high-profile event like the one this weekend.

No word on whether ABC or Disney will take action though.

Jimmy Kimmel criticized by Melania Trump

On social media, Trump did not mince words. “Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country,” Melania began. “His monologue about my family isn’t comedy- his words are corrosive and deepens the political sickness within America.”

“People like Kimmel shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate,” she continued. “A coward, Kimmel hides behind ABC because he knows the network will keep running cover to protect him.”

Trump argued, “Enough is enough.  It is time for ABC to take a stand.  How many times will ABC’s leadership enable Kimmel’s atrocious behavior at the expense of our community.”

Those are some very incisive words from the First Lady. But, her family has done its share of poking at sensitive topics when it was viewed as below the belt. After all Rob Reiner and his wife actually were murdered and President Trump had very little sympathy for him? No one is calling for violence. But, these kinds of cheap jokes on late night TV stretch back decades!

Will Kimmel be taken off the air?

That remains to be seen. Disney and ABC bent to FCC Chairman Brendan Carr’s will last time. But, Kimmel is unbelievably popular. So, that’s a PR hit waiting to happen. It would probably be different if the President or any of the cabinet members were actually harmed. But, you can bet the current administration will use this as a cudgel at the first opportunity.

For now, it’s a holding pattern. But, we’re at the part of a science fiction novel where things you said before an event are getting used against you after something completely different happens. It’s never a dull moment in this season of America. And, who knows how long it will be before late night comedians don’t have to look over their shoulders again?
