He has a lot on his mind.

Three days before their Iceland wedding, her fiancé got cold feet and called it off ‘I felt like the rug just got ripped underneath me’

Carolyn La Rose (@carolyn_la_rose) was supposed to leave for Iceland to marry her fiancé. But three days before the event, he unexpectedly called off the wedding, not because a third party was involved.

“He has battled depression on and off,” La Rose told TikTok. She said that for the last two years, he had been struggling with the condition while participating in a work project, which she described as “miserable.” Her fiancé makes video games, and the project’s producer had allegedly been difficult to work with. As a result, La Rose said her fiancé became unhappy.

“He got off the project a couple of months ago, and he just still wasn’t happy,” La Rose explained. Nevertheless, her fiancé felt relieved that he was no longer working on the game. Although La Rose said she was aware of her partner’s alleged co-dependency issues, she wasn’t aware of the extent to which they manifested. She claimed they were in couples therapy and that they both also go to therapy individually.

Calling off the wedding blindsided her

“I had to trust my partner’s word, and he would always tell me that he was fine, and everything was okay, and he was excited for the wedding,” La Rose claimed. There were no warning signs that suggested he would cancel at the last minute.

My fiancé called off our wedding 3 days before we were supposed to leave for Iceland. Not because he didn’t love me. Not because there was someone else. And no, I had no idea it was coming… This has been so emotional, so hard and a draining time. That’s why I haven’t posted much, or responded to people. I just am not there. I’m not ready to tell the story over and over, to hear solutions, to hear “it’ll get better with time” I’m just not there. And I know that’s hard for people because I can usually talk about anything and everything I’ve been and going through, but I’m not able to with this. I apologize that I’ve been ignoring so many people and my friends, but I just don’t want to talk. All I’m focused on right now is getting him the help he needs and taking it day by day. I’m sorry for the ignored calls, texts, messages and everything else. I just can’t right now. #wedding #relationshiptok #MentalHealth #relationships #sad

“I was completely blindsided. Just had the rug ripped out from underneath me,” La Rose said. A few days earlier, they had talked about seeking further help from a psychiatrist. Regardless, her partner allegedly expressed that he still wanted to push through with their wedding. Later that Friday, they went out and celebrated their engagement. They had been so busy, so they decided to have dinner at one of their favorite restaurants for the small celebration.

“We went out. We had a great time,” La Rose recalled. On Sunday, she went to work and helped him with chores around the farm. They talked about how he was feeling, and La Rose said he had a “diarrhea of the mouth.” He told her he wasn’t mentally ready to get married yet.

“He didn’t think it was fair to me, and he didn’t feel like he was of right mind to stand up there and make me these promises when he feels like he’s such a negative space,” La Rose continued. She said that logically, she understood that depression is a serious condition. La Rose also said she cares about and worries about her fiancé. However, she was excited for the wedding and couldn’t help feeling disappointed by the abrupt cancellation.

An upsetting situation

“We were having a micro wedding in Iceland with my parents, his best friend, and my best friend. And you know, at first, I thought he was just calling off the wedding, and we would still go, because we had this whole two-week trip planned,” La Rose said. However, her fiancé also refused to go. She may not have been betrayed like this woman, who found ‘cornstars’ on her partner’s device right before their wedding, but La Rose is still upset.

La Rose admitted she feels a lot of mixed emotions about her partner’s decision. She explained, “But I’m angry at myself for allowing myself to get so excited.” Although the wedding was postponed, La Rose said she and her fiancé are still together.
