The SCP Foundation Enters the ‘V/H/S’ World in New Anthology Film

It has been confirmed (via Variety) that the V/H/S horror anthology series is continuing on with V/H/S: SCP. When Backrooms was first announced, I confidently said that there needed to be a film that followed the SCP Foundation and its stories. Though I didn’t expect Siren Head to get its own adaptation first, I am at least proud to say that I knew this would happen given the success of the internet sensation.
“The horror genre continues to be a remarkable launchpad for new talent to share original creations, and the vast SCP universe has provided a vital incubator for this creativity to thrive,” Spooky Pictures co-founder Steven Schneider said in a press release.
What is the SCP Foundation?
If you aren’t chronically online and into internet horror like I am, you’re probably lost. But once I explain, you’ll see why V/H/S is the best way that these stories could have been brought to the screen. It is also proving how important this series is to showcasing the creativity and ingenuity of different voices.
Started in 2008, the SCP Foundation began as a collaborative digital project. Since then, it has grown immensely, becoming one of the biggest databases of horror and sci-fi fiction on the internet. Standing for Secure, Contain, Protect, all of the stories and lore can be found on its wiki page.
Due to its collaborative nature, the SCP wiki is full of stories from different authors. The stories run the scope from almost cute to absolutely terrifying. If you want to check it out, you can begin chronologically, or if you want to see what stories people have liked best, you can start there.
With how much content the SCP Foundation has, it’s going to be interesting see what stories they will pull for this movie. The SCPs range from Safe, Euclid, and Keter, so it seems likely the film will have some of each. SCP-294, a category of Euclid, is one I personally hope they will feature.
It seems like studios are finally listening
With the success of Backrooms and Obsession, it appears that studios are possibly finally listening to the public about which stories to bring to the screen. Though the V/H/S series has always been about pushing boundaries and finding unique creativity, this sort of adaptation could potentially give us a whole lot more.
The internet especially is rich with unheard ideas. So if Siren Head and the SCP Foundation do well, who knows. Maybe some Creepypastas could be next.
