The Kennedy Center Board could close down following bankruptcy, and the only person who can prevent it is apparently Trump

The Kennedy Center chapter continues. It has now been reported that the esteemed venue’s board of trustees, who favor President Trump, said they would file for bankruptcy as early as today. However, they added that the situation can be handled if those involved in the decision-making process agree to put Trump’s name on the building’s facade.
A Washington Times article reports that the board of trustees stated in a federal court filing that the “building is unsafe for occupancy” and that the center “cannot fulfill its financial obligations” without Trump’s fundraising abilities or acknowledgment of his contributions. The article also mentions that the Kennedy Center trustees and the court are supposed to meet on Tuesday to determine the direction of problem-solving.
The article also says the board of trustees told the court that the Center would have to return millions of dollars in private donations if Trump’s name was not re-included on the venue’s facade. The trustees apparently wrote in a draft proposal, “The Board understands that without such appropriate recognition it is unlikely that President Trump will provide the fundamental oversight of the renovation of the main building and lead the fiscal rescue of the Center.”
The proposal also supposedly offered suggestions for ways Trump’s name could be included following his help with renovations and other things. “Renovation Restoration and Endowment overseen by President Donald J. Trump and the Trump Kennedy Center Fund” and “With Gratitude for Support from President Donald J. Trump and the Trump Kennedy Center Fund,” were a few among the ten suggestions that were made.
Trump has been trying to get his name back on The Kennedy Center for a while
The Kennedy Center, located in Washington, D.C., has been at the center of significant controversy since early 2025. Shortly after Trump assumed the presidency, he fired several members of the Kennedy Center’s Board of Trustees and appointed several of his own people to those roles. Trump even became the chairman of the board, making it easier to influence its decisions.
In December, Trump said the board had made a “unanimous” decision to add his name to the Kennedy Center facade, renaming it the ‘Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts.’ Although his name was added to the building briefly, it was removed after significant pushback. Additionally, Representative Joyce Beatty sued the administration for adding it without congressional approval.
With the latest updates, it appears Trump is trying to get his name back on the building again. Whether his plans will be a success or not is something only time will tell.
