Antony Starr has a creepy smile as Homelander in season 3 of 'The Boys'

New Footage From The Boys Reveals Season 3 Release Date (and Teases an Especially Unhinged Homelander)

A first look at season three of The Boys revealed an exciting announcement: news of when the third season will be released on Amazon Prime Video.

In the sneak peek, we see corporate-backed superheroes Starlight (Erin Moriarty) and the Homelander (Antony Starr) posing amidst many flashbulbs. The camera zooms in on Homelander’s face as it becomes more and more disturbed, reflecting the character’s inner psyche. Then, an unexpected treat—the footage shows the season three release date. The Boys will return to Amazon Prime Video on June 3rd, 2022!

When can you watch The Boys’ new season?

The first three episodes of the deliciously dark superhero comedy-drama will drop on June 3rd, 2022. According to Polygon, new episodes of The Boys will then hit Prime Video every Friday. Our summer weekend plans are now set.

Who is joining the cast in season 3?

Fans are excited to see The Boys introduce new characters, notably the Captain America-flavored Soldier Boy (played by Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles) and Supersonic/Drummer Boy (played by Nancy Drew’s Miles Gaston Villanueva), who might drive a wedge between Annie and our favorite non-supe hero Hughie (Jack Quaid).

Ackles’ character, Soldier Boy, is touted as “Homelander before there was Homelander,” a longtime supe celebrity who will make Homelander feel threatened. Maybe that’s why Homelander is looking even more unhinged than usual in the teaser video.

Soldier Boy is already well known to fans of The Boys comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, from which the show is adapted. We’ve also seen it confirmed that Sean Patrick Flanery (Gunpowder), Laurie Holden (Crimson Countess), and Nick Wechsler (Blue Hawk) are joining this season.

While it’s hard to imagine new additions topping the incredible job Aya Cash did as the terrifying Nazi/alt-right Stormfront, we welcome every and all new characters on The Boys.

Why should you start watching The Boys?

The Amazon series is popular with audiences and has only gotten better—and even more outlandish—with each season, so we can’t wait to see what creator Eric Kripke has in store for season 3. If you have friends and loved ones who say they don’t like superhero media, they’ll still appreciate The Boys. No TV show has done a better job of skewering our superhero-saturated culture or portraying the dystopic flipside of costumed vigilantes.

As a satire of our conglomerated and politically corrupt landscape, The Boys shows the truth of how awful and capitalistic the business of saving the world would be if these folks were a reality. And few shows of late have tackled America’s “culture wars” with such deft and tongue-in-cheek awareness. As I wrote of season two’s finale, “There is no series on television right now that better depicts the vast faultlines within this country and the utterly exhausting, head-exploding day-to-day experience of being an American.”

The Boys also stars Karl Urban (Billy Butcher), Dominique McElligott (Queen Maeve), Jessie T. Usher (A-Train), Chace Crawford (the Deep), Nathan Mitchell (Black Noir), Karen Fukuhara (Kimiko Miyashiro), and many other amazing actors who make this bizarre and compelling world pop.

Should Antony Starr win all of the acting awards that exist?

Yes.

I am still waiting for the extraordinary Antony Starr to receive his Emmy. Join me in campaigning for this and rewatching earlier seasons of The Boys on Amazon Prime as we count down the days to June 3rd.
