The 1975’s Matty Healy Marries Gabbriette Bechtel After Keeping Their Relationship Largely Out of the Spotlight

Matty Healy and Gabbriette Bechtel have kept much of their relationship out of the spotlight since announcing their engagement in 2024. While the couple has appeared together at public events, they have shared few details about their wedding plans.

That changed over the weekend after details from a private event in Los Angeles began to emerge. PEOPLE reported that the gathering marked a major milestone for the couple after months of speculation about when they would tie the knot.

The speculation ended after the couple’s representatives confirmed the news. Matty Healy and Gabbriette Bechtel were married during a private ceremony in Los Angeles on Saturday, July 18.

So this is what everyone had been waiting for

The 1975 frontman, 37, and model and musician Gabbriette Bechtel, 28, exchanged vows during an outdoor ceremony at Castillo del Lago, the Spanish Colonial Revival estate formerly owned by Madonna. The property overlooks Los Angeles from the Hollywood Hills and served as the setting for a ceremony attended by family members and close friends.

Photographs from the ceremony showed the newlyweds sharing a kiss after exchanging vows before posing together around the property. Healy wore a traditional black tuxedo, while Bechtel chose a white wedding gown paired with a classic veil. She completed the look with her hair styled half up and half down.

Several familiar names from music, fashion, and entertainment attended the wedding. Charli XCX arrived with her husband George Daniel, who is Healy’s longtime bandmate in The 1975.

The reported guest list also included Anastasia Karanikolaou, Fai Khadra, Alex Consani, Devon Lee Carlson and fiancé Duke Nicholson, Sydney Lynn Carlson, Tyrell Hampton, Alex O’Connor, and Quenlin Blackwell.

In May, Healy’s mother, Denise Welch, revealed during an appearance on Tom’s Hirschsprung’s Podcast that the wedding was expected to take place in July. Her comments were one of the clearest public indications that the couple was nearing the ceremony.

Welch had previously spoken warmly about Bechtel during a 2024 appearance on Loose Women. “I couldn’t be more thrilled. We couldn’t be happier — she is everything I would want in a daughter-in-law.”

Healy and Bechtel first sparked dating speculation in September 2023 after they were photographed kissing in New York City. Less than a year later, they confirmed their engagement after attending Charli XCX’s Brat show in Brooklyn. Bechtel later shared photographs of her engagement ring on Instagram Stories. “MARRYING THE 1975 IS VERY BRAT,” she captioned one image.

The wedding comes at a time when Healy’s personal life has remained in the spotlight alongside his music career. His past relationship with Taylor Swift also continues to attract attention online, where fans frequently discuss whether “The Tortured Poets Department” was inspired by him.

Fans have also continued linking “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” to Healy. However, Swift has never confirmed who inspired the song.
