Texas Woman Gets an Iced Coffee From Tim Hortons. She Takes One Look at the Cup and Can’t Believe What She’s Seeing: ‘They Completely Remade It’
When a coffee place gets your order wrong, you usually just shrug it off. Sometimes, though, you might feel the need to say something, or at least try to get what you wanted in the first place.
For a TikTok user whose brand has been built entirely around the fact that she looks like Merida from Brave, that didn’t work out quite as she’d planned.
TikTok creator @greatvaluemerida filmed a short clip explaining that she’d explicitly asked for one cream and one sugar at Tim Hortons. What reached her through the window was pale enough to pass for milk.
“In what world is this one cream and one sugar?” she asked, holding the cup toward the camera. Then she answered herself, flat: “One cream. This is one cream.”
She didn’t drive away. “No, I’m going inside,” she says, and proceeds to politely ask the staff to “dump out a third of the coffee and then just add coffee.” They gave her another cup, and it was not any better.
“They completely remade it and it’s still so milky,” she said, back behind the wheel. She took the frustration in stride, though, adding in good humor: “I tried.”
Her caption tagged the chain’s U.S. account and posed a fair question. If one cream is already too much cream, how does anyone order less than one?
Tim Hortons claims every cup is the same
It turns out Tim Hortons treats its cream measurements very, very seriously. We’d never thought we’d say that sentence, but here we are. There is apparently a whole ordering language. The double-double — two creams, two sugars — began at the chain and became common Canadian usage.
Precision is the selling point. Asked about its drinks by CBC in 2021, the company said automated dairy and sugar dispensers keep the pour identical from store to store and size to size. That essentially means everybody is getting the same amount of everything.
That might explain why remaking her order didn’t do any good, because they essentially served her the same drink twice.
Users in the comments explained the issue. “The iced coffee comes with cream already,” one person pointed out. “So you’re asking for an additional cream.”
Other users echoed the same point. “Stop asking for cream and sugar and you’ll get a regular iced coffee,” another person added.
Texas is still learning the menu
The Lone Star State is fresh ground for Tim Hortons. The company opened its first Texas store in Katy in 2022, and the Austin debut two years later drew more than 100 people who slept outside to be first through the door.
The pace has picked up sharply since. The state counted four stores as recently as two years ago, and that number has since tripled to 13, with roughly five more in the works for 2026. San Antonio is next in line.
For now, though, at least one Texas customer is still working out how to order a smaller pour than the smallest one on offer.
