It’s a Final Fantasy VII Remake! …In LittleBigPlanet 2 & 3, but Still

Tifa Sackheart?

A dedicated Final Fantasy VII fan and computer science student used LittleBigPlanet 2 and 3's game-making tools to rebuild FFVII from scratch, and it came out an adorable, bizarre, perfect homage. (Full video of the levels after the jump.)

A Great Big List of Games from E3 with Playable Female Characters

All aboard the hype train!

Like many of you, me and my fellow Weekend Editor Sam Maggs and I were more than a little irked by the whole Ubisoft kerfuffle earlier this week. It almost made us forget about that long ago time (last Monday) when we were really excited about the stuff coming out of E3. Then we realized...we're still excited! And though female representation still has a long way to go in the gaming industry, we're happy to report there are plenty of other upcoming games that include playable female characters.

Peggle Recreated in LittleBigPlanet 2

We've said it before, and we'll say it again: LittleBigPlanet 2 is pretty much the premiere platform for impressive user-generated gaming content. Sorry, Minecraft. Sure, you can build models of the Earth and 16-bit computers in Minecraft, but LittleBigPlanet 2 can recreate other games--something YouTube user Makotoichio demonstrated by recreating PopCap's delightfully addictive pinball-Plinko hybrid Peggle within the boundaries of LBP2. Head on past the break to watch a larger, HD version of PeggleBigPlanet.

Windows XP Recreated in LittleBigPlanet 2, Which Hasn’t Even Been Released Yet

Sure, Minecraft is awesome and everything, but anyone who has played both Minecraft and LittleBigPlanet know full well LBP creations generally blow Minecraft creations out of the water. LittleBigPlanet 2 is no exception to this sentiment, having churned out wildly impressive creations during the beta phase of the game.

Created by LBP2 players Boss_Mob, SaggySackBoy, tomatenbrei and daFRED94, this LBP2 level recreates Windows XP, complete with loading screen, Windows Media Player, Recycle Bin, a few games, Internet Explorer, etc. More impressive, this level is currently a beta, meaning there's more to come.

Marvel Comes to LittleBigPlanet, In a Bigger (Planet) Way

Last year, LittleBigPlanet released three sets of DLC Marvel clothing for sackpersons of all ages, so that you could dress up as Iron Man, Captain America, or the most adorable burlap based Wolverine ever. But it was just three characters.

Yesterday Marvel announced an extensive new wave of LBP downloadable content that promises to be, not little, but big.

The four packs will contain costumes for 20 different heroes and villains, and a level kit that pits you against Magneto, chock full of everything you'll need to create your own Marvel themed LBP levels. The press release is kind of unclear, but it seems like the level kit will be a separate pack from the characters.

Mixed Media: 10 Western Video Games that Would Make Great Anime Films

This anime still comes from what I would call an unlikely source. Or at least a source with unlikely inspiration. The image comes from Dante's Inferno: The Animated Epic, a series of anime shorts inspired not by Dante's original Divine Comedy, but by the video game Dante's Inferno.

Also mysteriously in existence is Halo Legends, an anime series based on the Halo franchise. Because when someone says "film adaptation of the Halo franchise," the first thought I have is "anime."

And now this morning brings the announcement of yet another anime adaptation of a western video game: Dragon Age. Like all these other game animes, it'll be direct-to-video, with a 2011 release date.

While I find this trend to be downright odd, there's undoubtedly some potential. Halo, at least, has a sufficient fan base that there could be an audience for the anime, and it's not a stretch to guess that there would be overlap in the anime and Halo markets. But Dante's Inferno and Dragon Age are each a bit of a stretch to justify. But who knows, they might be great.

Which brings us to the bulk of our exercise. Here are 10 Western games that I know would make for sweet anime adaptations, ranked from how much I would salivate over it, in ascending order:
