Man says he watched a Taco Bell employee spit on an order, only to be told she was “smelling it”: “I SAW HER SPIT”

That is one way to ruin someone’s Taco Bell run.

A Taco Bell customer says he saw an employee spit on an order. When he confronted staff, he says they gave him a very different explanation. The woman was a manager, and she had only been “smelling it.”

Shawn Meck shared the allegation in a Facebook post after stopping for dinner at a Taco Bell he identified only as being “on Russell.” He says the encounter escalated after he challenged what he believed he had seen, with staff refunding his order before allegedly threatening to call police when he warned other customers.

The restaurant staff allegedly disputed what Meck says he saw

Meck says he confronted the employee immediately, writing that he “called her out” after seeing what he believed was spitting. According to his post, someone responded by telling him the woman was a manager and had actually been smelling the order.

He rejected that explanation outright. “I literally saw her spit on it,” Meck wrote. “That’s why I said something.”

In a follow-up comment, Meck said the woman had left the area before another employee approached him. That employee refunded his order, though Meck did not say whether staff gave him a reason for doing so or whether anyone acknowledged a problem with the food.

Things escalated again when several men entered the restaurant. Meck said he warned them about what he believed had happened, which allegedly prompted an employee to threaten to call police.

Meck told staff they could make the call and continued standing by his account. He never said whether police were actually contacted or whether officers came to the restaurant.

In the middle of all that back and forth, Meck never made it clear whose order it was. It could have been his, another customer’s, or one that had not been handed out yet.

Commenters wanted someone to check the cameras

Some readers immediately wondered whether security footage could clear up what happened. Others urged Meck to contact Taco Bell directly or make a report rather than leave the allegation sitting in a Facebook thread.

That is also the most practical next step for anyone who believes they witnessed employee misconduct at a restaurant. Taco Bell allows customers to report problems tied to a specific visit through its customer support system, which can give the company details it may need to look into the complaint.

If the concern is about how food was handled, customers can also report it outside the restaurant. Local and state health departments are who deal with complaints involving sanitation, employee hygiene, and unsafe food handling.

It helps to have as much information as possible if you do make a report. A receipt, the restaurant’s location, the time of the visit, and a clear account of what happened can all make it easier to pin down the incident.

Those details could matter in a case like Meck’s, especially if anyone wanted to check who was working at the time or whether security footage existed. So far, though, his post does not say that Taco Bell reviewed any footage or followed up with him after the refund.

What is not clear from Meck’s post is whether he took the complaint any further after leaving the restaurant. He does not say that he contacted Taco Bell corporate, a health department, or any other agency about what he says happened.

The Mary Sue contacted Meck and Taco Bell for additional information but had not received a response at the time of publication. We will update this report if either responds.
