Solo Traveler Checked in at a Best Western Hotel in South Central Tennessee. She Was Followed By Men Until She Was Forced to Check Out Early
She still gave the hotel a good review.
Gracie Johnson (@graciejohnsn) checked in at a Best Western Hotel in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, for a property inspection. But after being persistently followed by random men during her stay, Johnson realized she was unsafe and told TikTok why she had to check out early.
She checked in and then picked up her dinner. When she got back, she noticed several construction workers staying at the hotel. Johnson assumed they were staying over for a work event and paid them no mind. She walked past them and into the elevator, but four or five men allegedly rushed in behind her. Johnson assumed the men ran because they didn’t want to miss the elevator, unlike this man from Florida who had an ulterior motive for following a woman at a parking garage.
“But ladies, listen to your intuition. Because even though I had a completely normal, just like, small-talk conversation with them, my stomach dropped,” Johnson said. She got off the elevator and claimed that two of the men stayed in the room next door.
She was eating dinner, and about ten minutes later, Johnson said she heard knocking at her door. Johnson was almost sure it was one of the men from the other room but checked anyway. She saw two of the men from next door outside. Because she didn’t want to speak with them, Johnson didn’t make a sound and ignored the knocking. Eventually, it stopped, and Johnson thought that was the end.
But later that night, Johnson said the knocking started again. When she looked into the peephole, it was one of the men in the room next to hers. While looking into the peephole, someone also started knocking from her wall.
The men from the elevator were persistent
“And this time, they’re kind of trying to talk to me through the door,” Johnson alleged. At this point, Johnson said she felt afraid of the unwanted attention. She called the front desk and informed them about her abnormal situation. Unlike this hotel employee in France who ignored his client and went into the bathroom to cry, the Best Western Hotel front desk responded to Johnson’s distress. The knocking eventually stopped, but Johnson still felt freaked out.
Eventually, the front desk lady reached Johnson and asked her if she wanted to switch rooms. Johnson agreed to change rooms, and the lady moved her to the first floor. With a new room, Johnson was able to sleep that night and went to work the next day. But when she returned to the hotel in the afternoon, the front desk lady told Johnson she needed to speak with her.
Cutting her Best Western Hotel stay short
“This is where it gets scary,” Johnson recounted. She alleged the lady told her that after they moved Johnson, the security footage showed a man pacing back and forth in front of her old room, then looking into the peephole. Johnson said it lasted for nearly three hours, and the man allegedly had a large, unidentified object in his pocket. The lady shared a screenshot of the man’s face so she could avoid him during her stay. When she saw the image, she realized another man from the elevator was following her. Not only did she have to deal with the two men next to her old room, but also a third who was seemingly acquainted with the other men.
Johnson noted the front desk woman was kind and apologetic about the situation. When they offered to move her to another location, she refused and chose to work remotely from her laptop. But when Johnson headed out for dinner, she said she saw the man from the footage hanging around the parking lot.
“I’m just gonna cut my losses, check out, go back to Nashville,” Johnson decided. The front desk lady later informed Johnson that she had reached out to the man’s company and that he had been terminated. Despite her experience, Johnson said she left a good review for the Best Western Hotel because of the front desk lady’s response to her crisis.
